It could be summed up with a simple:

This post may get a tad long winded, but here we go...

Last season, I knew my trans was getting weak. With everything that I had done to my car, I was actually surprised that it was still holding up. At the end of last season, my mod list was as follows:

9" K&N cone, N* TB, Triple Edge Performance/trannyman95 ported blower, 3.2" pulle, ZZP shortstack IC, self-ported LIM, LS6 valvesprings, S1X cam, pacesetters, no cat, and a 75 shot of giggle juice.

That netted me a 12.93@112 on street tires, which I guess is not bad considering it was on street tires with a beat-ass trans.

I upgraded to a fullsize/S2 intercooler, and dropped to a 2.9" pulley for this season, and now have a niiicely built trans. I got all the standard stuff that Dave does for his builds + 3.29 single chain upgrade, and an Intense input shaft.

I made the 4 hour trip out to Ft. Wayne this morning with a friend of mine to pick the car up, and all I gotta say is... hooooly ****. The shifts are VERY quick, but not neck jarring. The 1-2 shift is nuts. Chirping the tires at the 1-2 shift at WOT is something that is awesome, but will take a touch of getting used to. I was so used to having sloppy, weak shifts, I had no idea what to expect when first driving a car with a built trans.

Dave went above and beyond the call in inspecting items on my car which were not related to the trans, and suggesting and offering to repair/replace them. These included LCA bushings, trans mount, and my stock-cracked-like-every-other-stock-sway-bar.

After a week with Dave, my car now shifts like it always should have and the handling is tighter than it ever has been. Well worth the money, and I now have a car that I can depend on.

I cant wait to come up in the Spring to have Dave install my shift kit and do a good once over on my current tranny. A complete tranny overhaul is not in this season's budget, but maybe next

Ya, changing from stock to those 3.29's was a sure wake up of these transmissions, I thought everyone was blowing smoke up my butt, bragging about them, then when I switched over to them...they really do hate street tires. LOL

Dave's the man for sure! Were very lucky to have him in and on our forums.

So Dave...Whens that green snake car going to show up for his transmission?

I've got a Trannyman special in my car too (though the previous owner got to make the trip and spend the dough LOL!). I agree with everything said above. The trans is awesome to say the least. The 1-2 shift is badass and the 3.29's are joy for me but not for tires. LOL! Not to mention that when I've had questions, Dave has always been ready to answer them and a pleasure to talk to. I truly would not hesitate to recommend Dave to anyone.

Hi, I'm new to this forum, but have been a part of GTPworld for a long time.... I own a 2000 GTP. 3.4 pulley with SLP heades and cat-back, zzp pcm ect... I'm at a 165,000 miles

I know within a year or so I'm probably going to be in the market for a transmission and trannyman seems to come highly reccomended.

with that said, I have a question on my mind. How many of you actually have his transmissions and have a significant amount of miles on them? I see he warrenties them for 6 months or 6,000 miles. I drive +1,000 miles a month and would kill that pretty fast.

Has anyone had one fail at all? and for what reason if so?

I have close to 15K on a tranny he did gears and reworked for me when at the same time he did my cam install.

There is a new guy on here named UWISHU1, he bought our old 95 SE with L67/4T65E swap and it has close to 60K miles on the trans and it made hundreds of passes at the track when we owned it, many on slicks and drag radials running 12.7-12.9s. An aweful lot of street racing also. I know of quite a few that have well over 50K on them going strong but a lot of those guys arent on any boards and are local.

so how much do you charge for typical installs on average, and how long does it typically take you to do one that is scheduled? I live in Bloomington IL.... so I'm trying to see if it would be worth it to drive up and have it installed, or try to find a reputable installer here.

like I said before, my transmission isn't broken.... but in case it does (I do have a lot of miles on it) I'd like to know my options. I'm the kind of guy who likes to plan ahead.

Pricing is all on my website but here is the short, $1450 for a base rebuild high perf street/strip trans, $350 for install, $250 refundable core fee if you want me to build one for you in advance for quicker turnaround time. If you have one built in advance it will take roughly 5-8 hours start to finish to install the new trans and road test it. If you want me to build your existing trans then it will take 2-3 days.

thanks a lot, that gives me a good idea of what to expect. the only pricing I didn't see on the website was for the install portion. I probably just overlooked it. your website is how I found this forum in the first place.

If I was wanting to run a typical 3.2 pulley setup car as a daily driver (mostly highway) with the occasional trip to a circuit track(2-3 times a year tops), is there anything you would recommend other than a standard install? If so how much extra would that cost? I dont intend on running a tranny cooler unless it's absolutly needed. I've seen too many messy accidents.

The base high perf build will suit your needs just fine so you wont have to worry about any upgraded hard parts

copterdoctor, it's like 3.5 hours drive to fort wayne. you can't beat dave's price on his build. if you take your car some where else here in chitown, that's not a 3800 specialist they probably rob you! they will charge you parts you don't need to replace or replace with some generic brands. i used to work at parts store so i know. my pop and i done many business with dave from installing to rebuild. six times all together for both of us. you can ask dave that we're like probably the most repeated customers from chitown

. i think dave probably had 4-5 other chitown club members have their tranny rebuild/install right after us. yeah were the first from the chi

. beside there's not many shops here that know much about the 3800 motor. i rather take my car to someone who specialize in the 3800 motor than taking to some a hole in the wall auto shop who rebuild honda. look around all the shops in chicagoland, you hardly see any more small shops that are gm specialize unless you want to take to the dealership? most of the shops here will have sign saying they specialize in foreign and domestic, but who know if they can fix your car??? you won't regret it if you have dave take care of you. look at Zach, he's one happy customer now.

I usually do all the work myself. I've been an aircraft mechanic for a number of years so I always favor quality over speed. My home garage and hanger at work just aren't setup for no hassle tranny swaps, so when I'm ready I'm looking at making the trip.

When I was in the Army I've worked on Blackhawks, Kiawas, & Chinooks. I was trained to work on the apache's but havn't ever laid my hands on one.

Now in the civilian life I inspect Buisness/ luxury jets. Learjets, Falcon 10's, 20's, and 900 models. I don't get many helicopters anymore, but there's talk of my company getting one within a year or so for me to tinker with again.

I've just had this screen name for years and havn't been creative enough to come up with a new one yet, even though it's been over 2 years since I've worked on one.
