I have spent alot of time on the f4ael / f4eat,,, they are not the easiest ones lol ,,, I have found went putting in the last drum .. (forward) you really have to turn the axel spline while pressing on the drum then clunkit moves in ... sounds like you are locking up one friction yes ??? also oneway clutch can be installed in both directions make sure the smooth side (without the tabs) faces towards you or else it will bind !!!

The problem was the transgo kit I installed was missing the note that stated I couldn't use all the new imidized checkball for the valve body. Apparently transgo supplies all the checkballs at .225 of an inch when one of the originals is .235. The F4eat trans is used in numerous cars and they have slightly different valvebodies so transgo includes the generic checkballs that fit most of the cars. I ended up figuring this out as the valvebody was the only thing that I could think of that would cause the trans not to move forward when I let off the brake. If I gave a little power it was enough to overcome the reverse circuit hydrualic fluid leaking and engaging it. Ended up replacing the one checkball with the original and all was fine. Car has close to 10k miles on that trans and works great.

The transgo kit for $50 or so addresses all the shift flare issues, as well as includes the revised pump valve. The 1st 3k miles the car will shift pretty firm but after that smooths out abit and it shifts better than when the car was new. You can have it floored to 100 mph and it doesn't miss a beat. I installed a new sonnax boost sleeve valve in the valve body too, but it wasn't necessary. The kit also includes 2 drill bits to open up the 1-2 clutch feed as well as the 2-3 clutch feed. You can just drop the valve body from the trans pan and install the transgo kit.
