Ok so I just happened to check my transmission oil level today while it was running and the oil level seems fine but I did notice that the transmission oil is no longer red and has turned brown. Do I need to get my oil replaced and filter as well or do I need to replace all the oil at once? Ive heard that I should just replace half of it first then do a full system flush on the next maintenance period. Ive got 156xxx miles on her so far so.

PS. I have had a rough idle for some time and I have had the occasional stall out while at a traffic light so I'm trying to figure things out by process of elimination.

Doing a filter/fluid change via a pan drop is always the safest route to service the transmission. This allows the new fluid to blend with the old fluid and is less of a shock on the soft parts. With as many miles as you have I would keep doing it this route as most flush machines advise against a complete flush on cars with over 60-80K miles to prevent damage. The fluid will change color over time and if was not serviced at all the life of the car then it is in pretty bad shape.

On note of the stalling and rough idle I would start with all of the ignition components such as spark plugs, wires and connections on ends, and coil terminals as they are common to corrode. You may also want to try cleaning the maf sensor as this can greatly effect how it runs and when they get really dirty this can cause the car to run too lean and outside of the pcms ability to alter the fueling to make it run how it should. Checking codes is something else you should do to make sure you dont have any that have set and if so they may point in the right direction.

Me and my dad changed the transmission oil a while back when I first got the car but I admit it has been a while(3 years ><). I just decided to check on it today and it was brown so I figure I will go with the route you suggested instead of a full flush. How often should I change the tranny fluid?

As far as the MAF I will take a look at it today and see if it needs cleaning. How do I check the coil terminals? I have not had an SES light or anything since the rough idle started so should I still have it scanned for codes just in case? Also I would like to clean my throttle body with some seafoam but Im not really sure where it is. Any help would be greatly appreciated

i like to change tranny fluid every 10,000 miles...i never let it become any color other than red...my general rule is if it smells burnt then the tranny is shot and needs to be rebuilt....of course you can also wait for it to fail when you are driving...
