    First I am new to this site so if I posted this in the wrong place please accept my apologies! Anyway, I want to enable the performance shift option on my 02 Grand Prix. I know this was not avaliable that year so I purchased the shift knob and harness from PFYC and installed both. I installed the wire in pin 21 on the computer and tested that the switch supplies a ground (it does). However, I do not think it is working. I noticed there is a 'performance shift' indicator on the instrument cluster, which I believe should light up (it does not). In addition, after reading member GeddyLee's how to on performance shift, the following was at the end of the article:

    "The last important thing to note that Swash discovered is that you need to make sure your PCM is setup to know it has the performance shift available.
    Here are tips for checking that.
    1) Calibration Data-->Transmission-->Shift Switch-->Shift_Switch_Type = set this to 1 (default is 0)
    2) Calibration Data-->Transmission-->Shift Switch-->Discrete_Switch_Debounce_Time = 25 (currently yours is 200 (I believe this is the factory default))"

    My questions:
    1. Do I need to put a lamp in the instrument cluster? (I am quite sure GM would not put a lamp in an indicator that is not used.)
    2. I assume the item about making sure the PCM knows it has performance shift involves changing settings in the computers software, if so how is this accomplished? If not what exactly needs to be done to enable the performance shift?
    Any and all help will be greatly appreciated!! Thanks in advance.

    I did the install straight from that writeup for another member and after i completed it the dash light lit right up. But..... He already had a tune for the performance shift to be enabled. Thus you need a tuned PCM or someone to tune your PCM.

    Hope that helps.

    Yes this does help, can this 'tuning' be done with a scan tool? or do they use a PC? I guess what I am asking is who does this sort of thing? I really can't afford an aftermarket PCM right now although I am well aware they are out there. Thanks again for all your help!
