and I'm reading through the posts and there seems to be a trend of problems with our tranny's. I've got a 2002 GTP. Now my tranny seems to be doing juuuuust fine...and I'd like to keep it that way..

I remember when I bought my first car (97 thunderbird) it was advised to install the shift kit because it replaced some gaskets and seals and just made it shift cleaner. I also bought a chip because it was designed to shift at more logical RPM's depending on how you were driving.

What are some options for our cars to make our transmissions a little bit sturdier and shift a little bit better?

    Thanks!

get the Intense shift kit, worst mistake I made was getting the ZZP shift kit, its cheap and ****. Works but doesn't do it like it should. Then get a nice PCM to help with it.

Props on the Tbird good choice!! The 4R70W was solid in 97; did you add a Trans cooler too? (trying to sell my 95' Stage 2 TransGo VB Still!) I will agree the same should go for ANY tranny to help keep it alive and kicking. A shift Kit (unfortunately there is no J-Modding these), Tune and i would even add a trans cooler W/Fan and maybe switch to Royal Purple Synth Fluid to keep it cool and lubed up

    lol good ol j-mod..

that was the difference between tccoa and here...on there there was a concrete, solid way to improve whatever you wanted to improve. Wanna improve the tranny? Get a MK8 Driveshaft, shift kit/jmod, and a jerry tune and you were good to go. And you would probably shave a tenth or so.

Here there's a thousand options and noone has a concrete answer on what to do lol

LOL, yeah i hear ya, a lot more opinions on what is Best here, Tho the General Consensus is Stay away from ZZP PCM's LOL, the Intense Kit from what i have read around here seems to the the Go To Kit, Trannyman is the Trans Expert here, im sure he will Chime in with his view, I would say Def go with a Shift Kit, Trans Cooler w/fan and some Royal Purple, the Bird and GP are two totally different beasts, i wish Mods were easy for these cars as they were on the bird, I mean come on, whats easier than dropping the pan and teh VB drilling a few Holes, remove a spring or two and get nothing but neck snapping tire eating shifts every time
