Ok, so I have a 99 GT coupe, and I was wondering if there is any special way to drive an auto?

another question...when I am driving the acceleration is pretty great, but it starts to lag out at 40 mph, anyone know how to fix that or realize that too?

    thanks guys

Apply brake. Pull shifter back to "D". Release brake. Apply throttle. Rinse. Repeat as desired.

get some mods and a tune and after you shift into second the car will fly to 80 mph.

Actually to some of you asses who didn't help out and thought it was a stupid question, I found help from some people and the answers to my question.

for people who thing you just step on the gas and go, dats stupid and just plain ignorant. I was talking about manual shifting and reving up to the correct RPMs...

and learning about brake torquing and neutral drops

wow, this thread attracts idiots like merlin who dont even make any sense or help at all. Thanks to people who actually help and dont say **** without even adding any knowledge

It's an automatic... Drive it like one. If you want to raise the RPM at which the car shifts, you will need a tuned PCM. Manually shifting the car is not always consistent and it is easy to over-rev/bounce off the rev-limiter. Plus, there is a delay between the time you push the shifter into the next gear and the time the transmission shifts. If you want to try it that way, change gears about three- or four-hundred RPM before you actually want the car to shift

That right there is a big NO-NO! You start doing that crap and you'll be walking yourself to school.

If you really want the car to go faster and want the transmission to last, actually listen to the guys on here and take their advice. You should do a couple of basic mods like an intake of some sort and removing the infamous U-bend in the exhaust. That lag around 40MPH won't go away until you have more power and a computer that is tuned for it. That PCM that 99prixg mentioned will wake your car up substantially. That combined with a decent FWI and a 2.5" downpipe from one of our vendors can make a nice, noticeable difference.

There is no secret to driving the car that makes it go faster.

Ok see, that right there is what I'm talking about, a good freaking post. See that is the info I need instead of just saying I'm asking a stupid question you know. I'm just trying to see if there are multiple ways to drag with an AT, I still dont see how that is a stupid question to some of you, ain't nothin wrong with trying to find news to do stuff right?

anyway...i heard w/ manual shifting you had to be really good, nad about neutro drops, that it messes up ur tranny
and yea i kinda knew about changing the ECU already, but seemed hard, I will probably go that route though...ima b asking you a lot of questions and bugging you though haha

    and thanks again

Using the lower manual bands (1 and 2 on the shifter) for racing will burn them up and mess up the transmission as well. They're intended for engine braking, not racing. 3 is designed for towing or specific city traffic where you won't want to go into over drive. D is for all other situations (including a day at the track).

Oh, I cannot even begin to tear into your silly ramblings, incorrect sentence structure and your blatent ignorance to the purpose of an automatic transmission in a family car.

    I hope you break something.

Look at some point we were all new here asking questions that we dint know just take it with a grain of salt..... but seriously work on the grammar and stuff cause believe it or not people do get annoyed with it in general.... and i wouldnt attack anyone on here either cause you never know when you might need their help

but anyways back on topic D would be the best option cause shifting through the transmission doesnt make it a stick all the highest shift points you could hit are the same

    1st, a forum is not a blog.

2nd, it is a family car. Every w-body (Impalas, Montes, GPs, Regals) is a family car.
