    I usually read and research for about a couple of weeks on ideas that pop up in my head. Even the stupid ones and may this is a stupid one but I rather ask you guys in my beautiful 3800 community. If it's dumb you all will tell me so. Minimalist just hold on.

    Why not add a transmission cooler tank inline to increase fluid capacity?

    Out line from transmission > thermostat t> into external transcooler> return line> aluminium tank (one that can handle pressure)> thermostat t > return line to transmission.

    Is this a bad idea?
    Please tell me why?
    In my mind as of now it's a small solve to the transmission going dry problem paired with the large tru cool cooler, Id say that's decent capacity. Not as good as cartunings deep tranny pan though I get that.
    🤷🏾*♂️ would Have a place to fill the transmission fluid.
    I'm sure there's a reason why this isn't a thing, I'm hoping you guys will tell me those reasons.

    As for space, I would just mount it driver side head light area under the hood. Headers are wrapped so heat won't be so bad and I figure the heat that does get to it will help keep operating temps up as tru cool coolers are legit to effective. My transmission in the summer time is like 160 170 ...this will be it's first winter so I'll cover it with cardboard or finally put the thermostat t inline.
    Not trying to go crazy large maybe just modify one of those large eBay universal coolant over flow tanks with the screw on caps that are tubular shaped.

    Good or bad?

    You need more fluid in the pan so the filter isn't sucking up foam. It's not going to help much at all with an external tank. To stop the foam suckup, you need to increase fluid level depth and drop the filter.

    gotcha. so the problem to be solved is sucking air and increasing fluid capacity?
    im thinking dry sump system like used in racing engines for the engine oil. one reason for them is to not suck air.

    and now you see why i love me some 4t80e....factory dry sump trans, with a 1" chain, oh and actual ****ing bearings supporting the chain sprockets..

    Canada Ben had problems with the 4t80e sucking the sump dry too, right? I seem to remember him putting on a larger side cover.
