Just curious if anyone has had the range switch either completely sh_t the bed, or at least start going out, and what did it do when that happened? I've read elsewhere that it is very uncommon for them to go out, but I'd like to see what input I get here. HD if there is any difference in the switch....

I haven't had one go out, but have given people pinouts on a Bonneville to add an external when there's went bad. If you have an internal and it goes bad, it should be possible to add the older external.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Thanks. I have a 99, so it has the external, and I honestly don't know I need to mess with it, but might have to if I cannot track down another reason for my reverse light issues from my other post.
Just trying to figure out the best way to test if it does come to that. I'm thinking finding the signal wire for the reverse lights at the range switch and back probing to see if there is current the whole time that the key is on. Got to find the right wiring diagram for the switch first, though. Someone shared a diagram with the light wires, but I think the color changes somewhere down the line.

Pretty sure all the info you need is right in this post. Looks like pin F on the range sensor kicks on the back up lights.

How to add an external range pnp switch to a transmission

Hope that helps. If you do put a new one on.. make sure the line up the switch in neutral like the post mentions.

I might have some wiring diagrams still if you need fuse location that feeds that switch for the reverse lighting pin. Might. I'll need to look
