Re: Help me plan my rebuild/strengthening
So after talking to folks on here, and the guy from TEP. I think im going to back off on my trans plans.
I already bought the input shaft, and i do plan to install that. My trans is also shifting lazily between 1-2 and 3-2 . So i think im going to get new shift solenoids as well as a shift kit.
The full rebuild isnt something Im going to do. If i grenade the trans i loose all of that work. at tax time, ill probably get the stage 2 build kit from TEP and do a proper build with a 1 inch chain etc.
My question is, what is invovled in installing the input shaft. what seals and stuff will i need?
Re: Help me plan my rebuild/strengthening
TEP has a 1 inch single chain set. so instead of all the other stuff i was going to get, im going for that.

He does? Got a link?
Re: Help me plan my rebuild/strengthening
I just want to point out that it doesn't make any sense to use a 4340 input with a 1" chain.

Why not? The 4340 is good (according to zzp) up to 450hp Thats what TEP and Gearstar put the limit of the 1 inch chain at.
Re: Help me plan my rebuild/strengthening
You are talking about something other than the gmr 1" chain then?
Re: Help me plan my rebuild/strengthening
4T65E 7/8" Single Chain Conversion Set This is what i think im talking about.
Re: Help me plan my rebuild/strengthening
I guess i figured they were the same, but apparently not. though i did find this MMS 1" High Performance Gear Set for 4t65e Transmissions - Milzy Motorsports
Re: Help me plan my rebuild/strengthening
Both of those suck. You are way better off with gxp chains.

Whats your reasoning on that? TEP reccomended the 7/8ths chain over the GXP gemenai set .
Re: Help me plan my rebuild/strengthening
I've seen 7/8 chains stretch with 300whp. They are little if any stronger than stock.
Gxp chains are holding 600whp on a few cars. 500whp is about their comfortable limit though.

That doesnt seem to match what TEP ZZP and a few other sources have said.
On a similar note, GM used the GXP chain for all stock chain replacements after a certain year, so if you buy a stock gemenai chain set its most likely the GXP chain.
Re: Help me plan my rebuild/strengthening
I should note im not trying to argue, i just want to make sure i buy the right parts.
Re: Help me plan my rebuild/strengthening
They all make a good amount of money selling 7/8" chains too. They never should have been pushed as an upgrade because they aren't. I think Dave may have changed his opinion on them as of late too.

Dave told me as recently as last week that the GXP chain wont hold.
Re: Help me plan my rebuild/strengthening
Well, he might be right there. But they will hold a hell of a lot better than the 7/8".
Re: Help me plan my rebuild/strengthening
Extremely interesting info right here. I'm already looking for the parts I will need for a full trans rebuild and wanted the best TEP had to offer so I contacted them but they say for anything above 375whp they would need this 1" chain that is hard to come by so they can't help. But I am happy to hear GTPpower say that the GXP chains are a better alternative from actual experiences. I'm personally hoping to reach 450-500whp with the stattama kit.
