Is there a difference between the GTP and GXP differentials. My GM catalog shows different part numbers for the differentials. The extension housing and internal differential carrier gear are the same part numbers as the GTP, so it would seem you could interchange the differentials?

The reason I am asking is I removed the planetary gears to replace the trapped Torrington bearing, left for the day. Next day, I found someone "cleaned up the bench". I had them in order of removal, now they are in random order and I thought I remembered that they need to be put back in the exact location they came from. This is for a high HP build, so I did not want to chance anything.

I have a friend with some new in the box LS4 trans parts. A NEW differential, as well as a NEW input carrier and a NEW reaction carrier. He needs a few favors, so I can get these for no out of pocket expense (just my time), so if these will work, I may make a deal for them. I seem to remember the input and reaction carrier listed in the GM Racing build book they could be used as is, but I have personally never heard of anyone upgrading these. I can not find any info on using the differential from a V8 trans in the V6 trans at all.

Thanks in advance for any help.

i havent found anything dimentionally different, what i have found is that GM/others had improved the PM/sinter processs to improve the strength of helical gears that are harder to make using PM/sinter than straight tooth gears

this is not the one i remember reading but it has much of the same info/keywords

So if I am understanding what you are saying is, they should fit and work fine, and they use the improved PM process for better durability?

I once moved a GXP trans into a standard SC casing and used all the parts except valve body/channel plate and electronics. The diff fit perfectly fine.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.
