So I had an issue where I thought I lost my transmission it started with feeling like it was in neutral from stop to go in drive, so I had to use the slap shift from start to go. Then it got real bad and the tranny over heated and wouldn't go into any gear unless I turned the engine off and started it back up, but it would only go into any gear for about a minute then it was just like it was in neutral. I dropped the pan changed true filter. Fluid was super dark. Now i can feel it go into every gear but from stop to go it still is real sluggish still almost like it's in neutral the rpms run up and it slowly starts to go. Once it gets going IT GOES like it should. I haven't been driving it because I don't want to destroy anything if it isn't already. One more thing if I check the fluid after it's been sitting it's black once I start it and let it run for a while and shift through gears and check it running in park it looks fine. When I dropped the pan I did change some of the fluid cut not all because I was told it could cause more damage. I'm at a loss right now LOVE MY GTP it's my third one and I'm not giving up on her I sold and gave away my others and regretted it every day. Especially when my neice is still driving my old 99 with 310,000 miles and strong as ever.
    PLEASE HELP!!

Sounds like you have a GTP with the tapshift transmission? Either way, if the old fluid was black, and the new fluid after the pan drop/filter change is still black then I'd be looking for a replacement trans. You might get away with doing another pan drop to change out some more of the old fluid and upon refill add a quart of Lucas to it and see what you get. Might buy you some time to find a good used trans. Up to you if you want to spend the money on the Lucas and another 5 quarts of new fluid. If you do indeed have the tapshift option then you will have to find another tapshift trans. to match it, as the other 4T65-e's are different in a lot of ways.

this tap shift tranny only came in the comp G 04 up cars.

All supercharged cars have the 4t65e-hd trans. as Scotty said. What matters is if yours has the tap-shift option on it. Slap shifting is something completely different.

So once again we ask, what year, model is your car? Is it a Comp G? Is it supercharged? We need details to help you out or you could end up getting the incorrect trans. for it.

Sorry y'all one more observation. When I shift the car theough the gears the all engage and when I let off the break it goes. However if I give it any sort of throttle rpms up and slowly syatts to move. I would think if the tranny was bad it wouldn't move at all when in gear. Maybe I'm wrong but I'm not convinced since in engages and moves without throttle I'm thing it's a throttle sensor or something a lot pocket friendly to me. Whatcha guys think. I'm reall can swing the tranny at the moment kids badaus are within a week of each other

slipping is slipping, its not a sensor. take it to a tranny shop for a est. they know how to figure it out fast.

    You're over thinking things....

as Scotty said, the trans is history! Don't rack your brain trying to find unicorns, just get it fixed! If you want one that'll last, contact TEP transmissions and get one from them. It's worth more than what a local shop will provide you.

    good luck

So ready to get the transmission now I'm being ask which ratio I have the 2.93 or 3.29. It's an 04 3800 series 3 supercharged engine with the slapshift. How do I know which one to get they say the 2.93 is FR2 tranny and the 3.29 is FR9. Vin number is 2G2WR524541256906. Oh and yes I'm typing on my phone and my fat fingers misspell a lot. Also thank you all for the help

If it says tapshift at the very bottom of your shifter and you have the paddles on the steering wheel to change gears it has 3.29 gears

thats gonna be a hard to find tranny at a junk yard. might be best getting yours rebuilt. being its got "tap shift" that tranny is some what special and its the only one you should be using.
