New to forum here and looking for advice on my tranny! I have the 07 3.8l grand prix with the 4t65e tranny if I'm correct? In the next week or so I'm plannin on changing its oil and filter and puttin in a new shift kit at the same time. Got a few questions here.....
1- i was under it today changing engine oil and noticed that 3 of the lines going in the tranny were leaking slightly. One was to the point where it had a drip on it...2 lines in the front. One in the back. Is this something to worry about? Easy fix? Parts needed?

2- also noticed the rack n pinion(thing comin out of tranny going to wheels) was seeping abit. At what point do you worry about that? Is that something that would be fixed at the same time i have the tranny cover down?

3-anything else to do while in there?

Sorry for the long post but I'm a newbie mechanic and just tryin to save some money by not taken er to a shop. Thanks for any help!

The axles are what come out of the transmission. The rack and pinion sits behind the transmission. You could try tightening the leaking spots and see if that helps

Do you tighten them from the inside? On the outside i just see a seal of sorts with no way to tighten em up

There's two CV axles (half shafts) coming out of your transmission, one on each side. Where the axles enter the tranny there's a seal that's hammered into place. If it's leaking at the seal, the seal is bad. If you see grease flung everywhere near your CV axle, that means your boots are leaking their grease and you'll need a new axle soon.

I'm not sure about the 3 lines going into the tranny. I'd imagine there's a o ring somewhere on that or maybe they're not clicked into place correctly.

    1. Replace the transmission lines. This is common for this vehicle. I need to do this on my 2008 grand prix - I ordered new lines on rockauto.com and there are some how-to's on this site and on the web.

    2. See JohnRider's response. I have had a slow seep from the transmission seal on my 2008 which makes the large rotating hunk of metal appear wet. I've never thought about it too much but it would be nice to replace and get rid of the leak.

    3. - I'd recommend the Transgo Shift Kit (if you didn't already purchase one).
    - Splice in a transmission cooler while you are replacing the transmission oil lines. I purchased the Hayden 403 and it seems to work well for me.
    - I'm assuming you are referring to changing the transmission oil and filter? If not, do this while you have the pan off for the shift kit.

Sounds like you are on the right track. Good luck and no need to apologize!
