99 3.8s/c had a real bad leak about 1/2 cup in 10 minutes Pulled the motor and changed the front seal. Put it back together and still have a leak but not as bad as before only about teaspoon in 10 minutes. I tried Lucas to swell the front seal some and had no luck stopping the leak. Where could the leak be coming from the tranny has 165,000 miles on it. Thinking about getting a junkyard replacement getting tired of pulling this motor out. If I had this one rebuilt what is the average cost.

Honestly if you plan on dropping a new trans in it I'd give Dave a call over at tripleedge performance. Or take a look at his site tripleedgeperformance.com

Basix build is around $1449. Of course there are other options/upgrades available if you feel like it.

It is my kids car so not looking to put 1500 into it. My options are as follows put the 3100 back in that has 212000 miles on it with some piston slap when cold, it also has a tranny that was slipping in 1st and 2nd not to be longed lived I assume.Take a trip to the local pick and pull roll the dice and pick up a used tranny and converter for $126.00. To be honest the 3800 is a much better engine I am just tired of pulling the engine but I am getting pretty quick at it.

That type of a front leak can be a fun one.

I've experienced a very similar situation in the past. Did the seal and it still leaked. Pulled the converter back out, put my mouth to it and blew into it.. fluid leaked out. There was a crack or hole that had developed in the converter. Would have never seen it or noticed it ..... but the new seal and the lip of the converter looked good.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.
