Re: Looking for EFFICIENCY upgrades
There is a small angle bracket fastened with a single nut right smack in the middle of the car between the front wheels. When you remove that bracket you can see a very large gear in the cross-car/fore-aft plane. It's leaking from there. As to which gasket... I have no idea.
Re: Looking for EFFICIENCY upgrades
all depends on where the leak is. if its between the engine and tranny dripping out the bottom of the bell housing thats the input shaft seal. or the tc is leaking. cant tell till you take the tranny out.
side cover leak can be done in the car. same with a pan gasket.

I think that's good for at least another 10 HP/lbs peak and a bunch more at the top end. So let's say I'm at 240 lbs. Factor in 20% drivetrain losses and you're at 200 lbs. I haven't dyno'd the car so this is an estimate but I think it's a fair one.
You have to multiply the 1st gear drive ratio and the final drive ratio and take into account torque multiplication of the torque conveyor to get axle torque then remove the radius of the tire to get the torque applied to the ground. It's WAY higher than 200 Ft/Lbs. Transmissions usually don't break down the road, it's usually on take off.

Re: Looking for EFFICIENCY upgrades
car forum, use plain car layman terms, we dont work on planes here. all you do is confuse everyone with plane lingo.
sounds like the diff gasket is leaking, also can be changed in the car.
Re: Looking for EFFICIENCY upgrades
I've never heard anyone express torque that way, although I know what you're talking about. I was just referring to the dyno equivalent torque which is equivalent to the flywheel torque minus losses. If I were going to take the torque multiplicative effects of the drivetrain into consideration, I wouldn't express the final value as a torque at all but as a force, which is the linear force applied to the ground, acting on the tires to accelerate the car. That's more useful because it can then be translated into an acceleration value via newton's law.
Re: Looking for EFFICIENCY upgrades
By plane I don't mean airplane but the 2D mathematical plane.. Sorry but i wanted to express the orientation of the cog somehow.
Anyway, I didn't know that all these gaskets could be changed without removing the transmission. I can ask about it next time I'm in the shop.

Re: Looking for EFFICIENCY upgrades
diff and its cover. so change able in the car.
what can happen is that pin in the diff comes free and it can crack the cover. but yo would hear it hit most of the time.
this is a hd diff and cover, yours will look close, but not the same.

At least I'm intelligible and not spouting incoherent babble. To me that would be far more migraine-inducing.

You sound like an incompetent douche who needs our help to do something that has been done 1,000s of times before you. The douche part comes in when you refuse to take the advice you're asking for.
So learn or leave
Re: Looking for EFFICIENCY upgrades
That diff... it's in the same orientation in the car? Where is it in the transmission assembly? At the bottom, near the pan? My leak is 6" forward of the front wheel line and centered left/right. The fluid was leaking from an area covered by a bracket that was fastened with just a nut.

You're the only douche as far as I'm concerned because of your impulsive, combative attitude. I'm just having a discussion. I haven't refused any reasonable advice either.

i got no clue where you mean. but that hole in the cover is where the axle goes in, the cover is about 6 inches long.
diff and cover is at the end of the tail shaft here, see the red cap in the hole on the end, thats the end of the cover. where the axle slides in.

Until it doesn't.. so I'll remember to say hi when you catch up to that point.

Yeah.. that looks about right. I'll have a peek under the car again tonight to see if I can get a better sense of exactly where the oil is coming from. Heck if I can avoid a $1500-$2000 rebuild believe me I will. Thanks for the visual aid.
Re: Looking for EFFICIENCY upgrades
I have contacts close to Toronto if you wanna do a complete brand new trans but I'm pretty sure unless your torque coverter o ring blew out , you only have to really worry about axle seals and pan seal
