Transmission repair guidance

I wanted to get some advice on my issue.
Mine is a 1999 Coupe GT, 3.8L. My two main issues are the wine that appears to be from the power steering and the hard shift when it gets warm. I have researched and found that the hard shift may be the EPC solenoid. I read today that the wine may not be power steering but the high pressure from the transmission pump. My power steering reservoir is full, with no leaks. Reading from 4T65E Transmission Info, kind of recommends rebuild of the transmission. That is just a scary thought to me. I don’t have any slippage in the transmission; I have maintained a schedule of maintenance with the fluid and filter. It is not dirty and does not smell burnt. I am near another service and want to get the solenoid replaced. I am wondering if anyone has had it done and what the cost.

I would get in touch with trannyman. It is possible it is the solenoid... and yet it may not.

does it do it while you are parked? I know mine does with when it is below 10* outside until it warms up....

The wine appears to be all the time. Everyone that hears it says it is low power steering fluid, but it is full.

Is the noise constantly present? Will it go away after a key cycle when it is present? If you pressure control solenoid is acting up you may not notice the trans to feel abnormal but the pcm constantly monitors shift timing each time it shifts from one gear to another and if the timing is excessive then code P1811 will pop up and max line pressure is commanded which causes the pump to whine and also cause your harsh shifts. This code will not turn on the check engine light and must be read with a scanner or code reader. Sometimes the code is not a current code but should be in the history.

I hear the wine all the time at idle, can't hear it much when driving, road noise mostly. I will have to invest in the scanner, can you recommend a make and model of the scanner?

If the noise is always there at idle, is this with it just sitting in park or will it also make the noise while in any gear range and not moving? There are a number of things that can cause the noise and sharing every detail helps to pinpoint it. I dont know what scanner to suggest as what I use is very expensive and not something I would suggest everyone to go out and by. If you are just looking for something to read codes there are numorous ones out there that are fairly inexpensive and will do the job and are available at most auto parts stores. Keep in mind a code reader will only do that- read codes. An actual scan tool or scanner will read codes and read live data.
