I have a problem with my trans slide-bang shifting. I believe its the common boost valve problem. I was wondering if I should use the TransGO shift improver kit or if there is a better update package kit or if I should replace the whole valve body.

What year/make/model is your car? How many miles are on the trans? What engine and mods if any do you have? Does this problem happen during normal driving or just heavy throttle? A worn boost valve is typically not the first thing to blame for a slide bump shift and if it is that bad then you likely have a code P1811 for excessive shift time. A Transgo shift kit greatly helps these transmissions to quicken up the shifts but if your trans has been slipping for a while and or the clutches are worn or burnt then fixing the route cause of the problem doesnt necessarily mean it will make the trans work how it should because the damage may be done. Pressure control solenoids in the 97-02 models had a very high failure rate and cause a lot of pressure related problems.
The car is a 2001 grand prix gtp. Mods are 3.4 pulley, CAI, 3inch DP and ZZP computer. The problem only happens at WOT. Under normal driving conditions the Trans shifts good. The fluid isn't burnt and when I serviced the trans 20,000 miles ago there wasn't anything unusual for a trans with 110,000 miles on it. Magnet inside the pan had a little metal on it and the filter had some friction material in it. I dropped the pan on it yesterday and there is as much crap in their this time as their was before. I guess I stop seeing if its going to come out of it before I completely fry the tranny. I don't know if the
2-3 shift slips or not but the 1-2 will let the car bounce off the rev limiter before slamming into second and chipping the tires. It seems like when I shift the car manually it will shift every time but if i let the car do it itself then it will mess up. Will the P1811 code set an SES light or do I need to scan it to see it?
The code P1811 will not turn on the check engine light and you will only know its presence with a scanner or code reader. It sounds like your trans is getting tired and is low on pressure under load which is also something a poor working pressure control solenoid can cause but that doesnt mean you dont have other problems. I would also check for MAF sensor codes as a dirty maf sensor will not only cause the car to run lean but will also effect trans line pressure and can cause this problem. Check your LTFT (Long Term Fuel Trim) and see what it looks like- this can only be checked with a scanner, not a code reader. If everything checks ok you could try to install a shift kit but slipping that bad says the damage is done and you are only putting a bandaid on the problem and it may or may not help out.
I put the transgo shift kit in with the new boost valve from sonnox and i replace the pressure control solenoid. It seems to have fixed the problem but I know the trans will need a complete rebuild in the near future. The trans has great part throttle shifts and shifts like stock at WOT. It doesn't shift hard but it shifts fast and I like that but with the damage that the slide bang shifting has done I know this is only a band aid. THANK YOU for your help trannyman95. I sure when it comes time to build it I'll need your help again.
