    4t60e (source of our 7/8ths chains....and the larger drum design similar to the new billet Sonnax 3rd drum for the 65e) behind the 4t80e

    thankfully, its easy to hunt down and kill a northstar and claim its transmission for your v6.


    id almost swear some buick guy at gm musta really hoped they'd turbo the 3800 and bolt the 80e behind it.
    it sure looks at home...snug as a bug in a rug


    i cant seem to locate my pic of the flexplate with the bellhousing mod drawn out on it and drilled for the 4 bolt 80e pattern (9 3/4" bolt circle). but i did find the other stuff with the chains and diff's. ill keep looking

    OEM 80e, GMR 1" 65e, OEM 65e split chain, OEM 60e "7/8ths" chainset used as an upgrade to the 65e chains.

    youll notice that the 4t80e has bearins, large bearings, lots of them. while thrust washers are still used youll find lots of torringtons and roller bearings...not to mention the two massive sprocket support bearings. also shown s the 1" driveline centerline increase to fit the massive planetary's where most of the reduction occurs.
    all these bearings are quite possibly why the 80e only has ~24% losses over the 65e's 21%, despite having 4 pumps and much larger rotating mass.

    try to figure out which one is the 80e FDR planetary/diff (hint: the 65e FDR planetary and diff is the small one)


    in this pic you can make out the 4 bolts that hold the 80e's differential to the FDR planets.
    remove diff cover, pop sump tube out (be carefull with the seal, but its magnetic so you can retrieve the seal easily and rtv it to the end of the sump tube (line it up with the marks on the tube where you can see its been chillin fer a while...)
    unbolt diff, set aside (btw installing spring loaded "posi" diff like the EP or the Phantom is super easy with a bolt together diff)
    pop drivers side output shaft into the side diff gear (shaft stays, gear comes off), then you can yank off the sun and planets and swap in your 2.84, 3.11, 3.48, or 3.71 FDR and toss it back together.


    here's a view of the reduced head arp bolts we used to keep from removing more than a hair of metal from the counterweight. the Meziere billet flexplate doesnt have this issue.

    one of the pieces of the barricade rod (30foot) is a fist cut out of a piece of 3/4" steel plate

    it was getting 3 AC units installed, it was too hot inside for the glorious suburban chicago swat teams in case of a terrorist attack, im sure our troops woulda loved to have AC while shooting through one of 18 gun ports (19 if you count the twin 50cal)

    its actually pretty badass, though slightly disturbing in a way.

    funny thing was it sure wasnt modified as an mrap would have to be.
    the battery box/genset for the systems wasnt hardened, visible lines, millions of weak points.

    that sorta **** wouldnt have flown with the motor pool mech's

    Im not trying to derail your thread but the whole "militarization of police" thing pisses me off. And fvcking AC! If its good enough for military than the SWAT team needs to man up! Want to play soldier then play soldier........... WITHOUT THE DAMN AC! Equipment like that doesn't belong in any type of police force!

    well to be fair about it, i know lots of MP'sand soldiers do go into police forces, so well trained people are out there. i just know also that if someone gave me a toy like that id wanna play with it...alot.

    i could see most guys having the same thought... the proper training and prior experience usually help figure out the needs of a situation, not to mention reluctance to escalate...
    question is if they are the guys in charge...or the armchair warriors are

    Why's it suck? Not that we can see enough of the connector schematics to know anything... but what's so bad?

    Worst case, get the proper pinning tools and life will be good

    I've been able to take the ESI info and just save it as a pic. Keeps it much larger. Either way.. it's all good. I suppose you could direct link them and then pb would allow us to zoom

    What's your point though. I know something was different on the 80 that Dave was able to figure out. Did you figure it out too?

    it gives an idea as to the best compatibility pcm vs trans best seems to be the 03+ pcms with the 00-04 80e but people with the older pcms that wanna maintain trans adaptives/diagnostics would want an earlier 80e or to drill the later 80e for the larger PSM and add the pins/wires.

    dave was able to change the bin, i was just using a solid state inverter gate on the shift sol b to accomplish the same thing. i dont know if any of daves issues might be related to soome sort of bin work bugs but i know there arent on the oem 65e trans file...so 50-100$ on solid state relays (one small NC, one high current NO-there arent many NC high current relays so you have to make your own using a low current NC to turn the large unit into a NC)

    even using a micro/mini 5 pin electro-mechanical relay would work fine if just a hair slower....
