How can you tell if an 04 Impala is SC without seeing the engine? Sorry if its a dumb questiom, I'm a Grand Prix guy. Simple. SE, GT, GTP, GXP. I bought a 2004 Impala SS Indy 500 edition L67 as a replacement for my GTP but now my gf is looking at an 04 Impala and I was wondering how to tell if its supercharged

They should have dual exhaust out the back and a different spoiler.

They normally look like this from the rear, that one you posted has the right rims but hard to say if true, and no ss badge on the side.

From what I recall there was nothing truly solid on it. Cam.. were those wheels/spoiler/exhaust an SC only? I'd want to see under the hood.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Hmm alright! Does have the right rims. And true.. no SS badging. I'll have to go with her and see if we can test drive it and pop the hood. I mean that Supercharger whine is a pretty good indicator, but I always look at the engine/engine bay/fluids and what not before I buy a car anyways

I believe the dual exhaust was only a SC'd Impala thing. I could be wrong but I'm fairly sure

    Learning something new each day...

I checked Rockauto and .. like you mentioned the only one with y pipe and dual muffies was SC. And yet.. I'm driving a dual exhaust Regal. Don't trust what you see on a car that's a few years old. Anyone can clone or add the cooler parts to any car.

    Right ^
I know a guy that put an SLP catback with Loudmouth mufflers on his sisters 3.8L Grand Prix SE. Which I guess when it has the "big engine" option 3.8 it might as well be a GT minus the rear bumper facia and some other cosmetic things. I think other than cosmetic they are the same, right?

    I can't tell the GP's apart..
I came from the Bonnie world where if you were charged, you were SSEi or a couple year anomoly where they'd let you order the SC engine.
Regal.. there's very few monotone GS's, so it you see two tone...it's SC
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

I gotchya. Yeah all I knew about Bonnies was that if it was SSE its 3.8? And SSEI is supercharged. Regals I knew if its GS its Supercharged =P

Bonne SE in 98-99? could be ordered with SC, otherwise 3.8 NA
    Bonne SLE/SSE are 3.8 NA
    Bonne SSEi was the balls

With that being said.. no version of the Bonne could be had with a 3.1, hence why I know the GP was inferior from the start
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Yeah. The Grand Prix SE could be had with a 3.1, or a 3.8 in the early years, pre 00 I believe. But the 3.1 also came with the same tranny as the 3.8 I believe

Bill did bonnies just have the 3.8 or could you get the 3.4 if thats possible. My buddy has one but I don't recall it having a 3.8. Just curious. Sorry for thread jack.

True. She has an 01 Town Car. Had a problem with the spark plug blowing out and kinda stripping the head. So helicoiled it since thats all Ford and the mechanic shop were offering to do. Or for a few hundred $ replace the head.. So we just helicoiled it and its doing fine. She said she wants something with better gas mileage and something easier for me to work on and she knows I know more about GM 3800's than I do Ford 4.6L engines. I told her we'll see what we can find

Right. Well if she got a SC car she would be knock free more than likely since I have a ZZP downpipe that made my car knock free =P
But yeah.. she'd just get into trouble with a supercharged 3800 ;P
