I'm glad people are benefiting from this thread! I know I'm just a victim of the spring failure, and not an information provider, but it's nice to see people getting their stuff fixed without having to take it somewhere and pay LOADS of money.
I've been kind of busy lately, but I'm hoping to get my HUD fixed next week! I'll post and let you guys know how it goes.
Yeah when this first happen to me they wanted to f me by telling me I had to buy a new hub when it was so simple to fix they wanted 1100 dollars with labor and all that is some scary crap !
Hi guys. New to the site. Came across it becasue I too have a 2004 GP with a HUD problem, except mine isn't the sping. I can see through the windsheild that it is attached. I had my mechanic look at it and they said the unit is working, but the mechanism that moves the display up and down is shot. They took it apart and tried cleaning it and to see if something was bound up and everything is fine. So now I need a new unit. I know they are expensive. My question is does anyone know if HUD's from other cars (Bonneville, older GP, etc) will work in the 04 GP? There are several on Ebay and they all look the same but came out of different cars. Just wondering if there is an easy way to figure out if one of them will work. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Scott

Thanks for the great write up on fixing the broken spring in the HUD unit.
Mine works just fine again.
One tip I can give on section 11 of the directions (removing the dash part which covers the HUD).
If you use a small wooden spoon (from your wifes kitchen utensils) to pry it up to release the clips
you won't cut yourself as the edges are very sharp. Worked great.
Cheers
