So i've spent the better part of the last few hours looking for a radiator for my car. The other day I had some cooling issues and thought I resolved it by bleeding the coolant. It worked for a few days and now whenever my cars not driving the temp skyrockets. Anyone have any suggestions where to start looking??? I've got an 04 Competition group. Would prefer aftermarket upgrade but I need some cooling so I don't overheat. Dealer is not an option unless its my only one I'll also be upgrading my thermostat but I already have that.

Also had a question about radiator fluid. I've read on several sites people are draining the dexcool and adding the green coolant. Why??? Is this provide better cooling?

people tend to have problems with dexcool... i would only switch if you were replacing the radiator or if you plan on flushing it out multiple times... what happens when you mix the two coolants is it begins to gel up and clog the radiator. have you checked you readiator cap and looked at the fluid? it may be overheating because the dexcool gunked up already and needs flushed out. it should look like an amber type color... if it looks like mud.. chances are you need it taken care of

if you just ran the dex cool for a long time and it oxidized (you had air in the system) then it got all gunky and turned to mush.

you need a serious flush. unless your radiator is super clogged up then its probably not bad. you sure your thermostat isnt sticking or something?

No I'm not sure what the problem is. I only assumed it was the radiator because of the rust colored radiator fluid when I did the flush a few weeks back. I thought the core was rusting and then this started happening. So if I do a complete flush again, is it more beneficial to use dexcool or the green coolant???

Your actual radiator is fine and is capable of cooling a 500WHP setup without any issues.

Explain to us the problem a little more in detail. Did you bleed the air out of the system with the bleader screw on the thermostat housing water neck?

I did a fluid flush a week or so, maybe 2 weeks ago because I noticed the color around the cap and neck were mud like and it was running a little hotter than normal. I completely drained it out. Fluished with water then drained that and then vaccumed it out with a wet vac. I refilled but I forgot to bleed it out at the thermo housing. A few days back I noticed it running even hotter than before so I asked around and realized I skipped the bleeding process. I have since bled it but just yesterday i got stuck in traffic and I looked down and noticed my temp was borderline over heating. It actually went into the red for a few seconds but then never got back to that point. I also noticed my center console was very warm. I checked my trans temp and that checked out good. So its only the engine. Water pump maybe? but that cause overheating instantly at highway driving wouldn't it? The problem mainly occurs when I have no airflow into the front of the car ie stopped(lights, traffic etc.) Driving makes the temp drop down substantially.

What can I use to make sure I get all of the old fluid out? I was thinking of taking out the radiator and using a pressure washer???

Fans not coming on anymore??? I'm not sure if I was even hot enough but so far at 1 bar over half way mark theyre not on. All new fluid, again, but this time I have a 160' tstat.

Correction, fans are working, engine wasn't getting hot enough. Took it out and ran it a little harder and got the temp up, fans working great, everytime the temp got up to the 2nd bar over the middle, it started to drop real quick. I think my problem is solved!
