04 Pontiac Grand Prix Supercharged: Hey what's up everybody. I ran into a bad Crossover pipe with SD Headers.

Finally found a person to weld for me but was told to make a "cut" on the Crossover pipe so I'll be able to bend it by hand where it'll fit and bring it back to him so he can weld the cuts for me.. Not sure where's the best place to cut or how many cuts to make to bend... Not sure what the welder will do. Guess I'll be molding crossover pipe for him since I have to drive 3hrs to my car and come back with the headers to be welded. (Car sick 3hrs away from welder & headers)..

Also was told to cut the crosspipe in half and add a flexpipe so I can flex it to fit.... Not sure what size flex for crossover...

    Was given those options....

    2 questions:

    1. What you guys think will be the best option?

    2. Will I be able to wrap all flex parts with this titanium wrap or will I crack pipes/welds by wrapping?

    Need help. Pics below

If you unbolt the front manifold and slide the pipe into it you should be able to muscle the whole front header with crossover to the passenger side and push it forward onto the 2 studs coming out of the cylinder head.

That's really strange. I have these on my gp and never had an issue with alignment like this. And I've installed like three on friend's cars all no issues. Oh well, it's China, guess their quality control isn't the best.

I can't answer as far as the flex wrap, but I'm sure Scotty can weigh in on that!

id try what five said, only put a block of wood between the pipe and engine so you dont tear the lower pipe apart. after bending it, the cut would need to be on the out side of the pipe so the pipe pulls open letting the pipe move to the left. near that clamp on the wrap would work likely if it needs it.

you could try a pipe in the pipe to bend it over, just watch you dont bend the crap out on the end of the cross over pipe.

Tried everything. Even had qualified mechanics on hand help. Loose front, loose back and all combos. Have to figure out a way to fabricate now

Cut and bending procedure will be done outside the car for sure. Outside cut made more sense to me as well. Don't know why he was telling me to cut in the inside and said to leave him some steel to work with... Odd..

Scotty chimed in on my problem a few weeks ago I believe. It's hell that they won't bolt on and fit. Trying not to mess them up ha... But just thought to myself that if I can wrap the flex it might protect them even more idk. And than again I was told to keep the wrap at least 2-3in away from the welds because the isolated heat will eventually crack from the welds....

I'm just so close on getting my car on the road. 1st time modding and it's 3.5 Pulley with supporting mods or bust for me lol

unless he wants you to cut a pie wedge out of the inside and close it on its self? sawsall would be my first choice for that.

for real tho, id be on the pass side fender grab that header on the cross over and pull on it, get a friend in on it too if you cant make it bend. im a monster in my own right, you may not be 6'6 and 260 lbs like i am lol

If that silly heat wrap wasn't on there you could just heat the pipe with a MAP gas torch at that second bend near the transmission dipstick and push that ****er over and it'll make that thing fit without cutting and welding.

Exactly! Nobody wants to help. California rules [emoji57][emoji19]... Probably need to invest in tools now. All I need is 2in left and 1in down. Simple ha.. China made...

MAP Gas Torch huh, I might as well purchase me one and get'r done. Header wrap is off in the meantime. At the 2nd bend here right?.. I'll YouTube how to torch this bad boy. This crossover is giving me hell

    Yeah somewhere around there.

Heating it up will allow the whole tube to flex and bend enough to move it into place. A MAP gas torch is just a propane torch but way hotter. Heat it up all around and it see what it's like to work with.

Well fellas ha.. The bend is official. Kinda pinched it at the bend. Not sure if that pinch from a round circle, to a vertical oval, will restrict some of the exhaust but it was worth a shot. I did the bends blindly so I wont really know the actual fit until I get to my car. All I knew was I needed 2inches to the left and 1inch down haha.

Bench pressing never really impressed anyone FWIW. Take a gym guy and put a 7/8" full length pool slate in his hands.. Best of luck.

Anyhow.. I never was unable to put a set of headers on a car. Firewall maninpulation is one thing.. needing a different bend though. Seems like the pipe was rotated/clocked a little off. I'd have done exactly what Scott suggested.

    Hope your bend works out.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

I figured you were going to it on the car lol.

Like stick the rear of the pipe in the back header, heat that bend up and then push it into the front header to make it fit.

Yeah, I was looking to do that but I wasn't getting the whole surrounding area red hot for the bend.. Even with the headers out, that slight bend took a minute and even longer because I seen I was mess'n up the pipe a bit lol.. Had fun though haha
