Supercharged CV passenger axle fix

I have an (04 GTP Supercharged)

So what happen was my passenger side axle busted out it's inner joint.. So I went to the yard for a solid replacement.....

First took an axle off 06 GTP N/A, went home to do more research to figure out a (Supercharged axle) is what I need. There's a difference size & length--> Heavy Duty and Non Heavy Duty passenger axle. Now I know right??

Right away I swapped for an 03 GTP Supercharged axle and it seemed like the shaft that goes into the transmission/differential <--(if im not mistaken) was too wide...

So I go back to the yard and swapp for a 99 Buick Park Ave Ultra axle, supercharged of course.... And the same issue. I don't see what the problem is. My only guess is that I have a (Non Heavy Duty Differential) for some reason I don't know. So I guess tomorrow I'll try a GTP N/A Non Heavy Duty axle and see if that'll work.

My research must be trash because this should be a walk in a park to slide in. Give me some feedback. Anything will help... All fails I'm buying a brand new axle.

You need a supercharged axle because of the length. A regular 4T65e axle will not be the correct length.

I looked up part numbers from a 2002 and 2004, both are the same numbers for the passenger side axle.


You really have to shove the axle in there to make it push past the clip at the end so I'm not sure what kind of problem you are having.

If you had a caliper or just two flat edges with a tape measure you could have measured the stub on each axle to see that they are going to pretty much exactly the same even that it won't matter. Even a standard axle is going to the same size, it's just the overall length the axle that is different.

I'm hoping the previous owner didn't change differential to non HD as Supercharged are Heavey Duty for passenger side axels. But I've been trying to research all day and I came across a mistake that may be a problem that I found. Took the part off a 99 Buick Park Ave SC. Says on this part list that only a 96 SC Park Ave will fit along with others. That may be the problem. I'll find out tomorrow.....

Is it even possible to just change the differential/Cover from non HD to just HD anyways? Just asking because I'm sure if whoever took the time to change the transmission from HD to Non HD without knowing it, they'll still have to tune it. Correct? Difficult task and less likely to happen. Just curious

I doubled checked your list and it is only 96 PAU that fits. At first I thought it was very odd that it does at all. Bonneville is an H body, PA is a G or C body meaning that both of them are bigger cars. If I were you, I'd get a supercharged axle from a Grand Prix or Regal. That way you know it's right.

I had to take off the hub bracket and had to lift up the engine a bit from under the Tranny. Reason is Dogbones were off. Shaft of axle wasn't lining up parallel to the differential/Tranny hole... So all the other axles I went through would've worked fine.

How does the axle not line up when you're putting it in the Trans first and it's movement is free? I think you've done things the hard way. 1st, trying to save a few dollars by being an axle (used) which will Last??? Then trying to use from other vehicles, making for a few trips back/forth. Then disassembled some stuff you probably didn't have to.

Buy a NAPPA axle next time, the $80 would've saved you time and trouble and they last!

His engine was rotating back a little because his dogbones weren't there. This rotates the trans down a bit and likely the frame was getting close. Most should be able to get the axle in.. but he knew what he had to do. IDK.. why you'd want to leave the bones off as it puts pressure on the exhaust.

Use my car as a solid daily but going through what I did was actually worth the education of it. Learned a lot more than if I did it the easy way. Maybe next time, now that I've educated myself. Got some practice at the yard removing axles as well. 3 days ago, I didn't even know what an axle was haha. Loving the process
