hi I lost my original key and got one from the dealer but i can only find directions for vis that start with one or four and mine starts with a two, is it possible to do at home or do I have to bring it to a dealer?

Also I gave the dealer my vin and the key has a circle with a + in it not PK3?

IIRC, the key learn procedure should be the same, I'll double check though, I think the procedure calls for an original key to be used....the circled plus means the same thing as PK3, if that helps.

ok glad the the circled plus means the same thing as PK3, I found the original about five hours after paying $30 for the key at the dealership (found under the old wiper motor of my '98 F-250 i just changed out LOL ) the process I tried of original key in and on 5 secs, new key in in and on 5 secs isnt working, is this the wrong procedure?

Original key in and on, remove, new key in and start.

And FYI the first number being a 2 just means it was built in Canada, just like all W-bodies

Doors have to be closed, a/c and fans off, radio off, etc.

Try original, original, then new... It's technically supposed to be 2 original keys used but... Eh. Lol

Two originals are not needed. Doors don't need to be closed to program the key either.

Looks like the VIN 2 "start" means something.
These programming procedures are only good for USA built vehicles.

The first digit of your 17 digit VIN number must start with the number 1 or 4.
If your VIN number starts with a 2 or 3 or a letter these procedures WILL NOT WORK.

Can I program a new key myself if I have no working keys?
Yes, once you have had the new key cut by a Locksmith
or other qualified persons use the following instructions.
Click here to find a Locksmith in your area.

    1. Insert a new cut key in ignition and turn key to the ON position for
    10 minutes and 30 seconds.

    2. Within 45 seconds turn the key to OFF and then back to the ON position for
    10 minutes and 30 seconds.

    3. Within 45 seconds turn the key to OFF and then back to the ON position for
    10 minutes and 30 seconds.

    4. Turn key OFF then back ON. The key is now programmed.
    Start vehicle to test key.

Can I program a duplicate key for this vehicle?
Yes, once you have had the new key cut by a Locksmith
or other qualified persons use the following instructions.

Click here to find a Locksmith in your area.

    1. Insert an existing programmed working key into the ignition cylinder.

    2. Turn ignition to the ON position for 5 seconds, then back to OFF position.
    3. Remove the existing key and within 5 seconds insert new key and turn
it to the ON positiion for 5 seconds.

    4. Turn key OFF then back to ON. The key is now programmed.
    Start vehicle to test key.

Thats the exact way I programmed my 2nd key, and having a W-body my VIN obviously starts with 2.

You understand certain W-bodys start with a "1" which happen to be 97-03. And 2004-08 start with a "2". So not all "W-bodys" start with a "2".
