I'm need to know the steps I would have to do and items I would have to do to paint my interior accent pieces. House paint vs spray paint. My car is silver with black leather. And a fading black dash. I want to paint the accent parts gray or silver. And I my paint my dash black to give it a pop cause it's starting to sun rot and crack.please help me out. I feel like spray paint would be easy the scratch and chip vs house paint. Or am I wring? Help me please.thank u for ur time.

    house paint NO!

you need paint for plastic, and all the prep that goes into it before you paint anything.

im sure others who have done this will chime in to let you know what they used.

I used the krylon brand spray paint thats specifically for plastic on my interior pieces i painted. they are still holding up well after 3 months. Make sure you wait a couple days for the paint to fully cure and also rough up the surfaces you are painting with sandpaper

Yes rough up the plastic with 320 grit and make sure you get the parts clean before you paint them.

Auto basecoat/ clear > spray can > house paint IMO

I've painted many an interior pieces with spray paint. As long as you do it right, it'll last.
Clean the piece with water and a few drops of Dawn dish soap (or any degreaser)
Sand with 320-400 grit sand paper to give the paint something to bite to.
Spray 2-3 coats of paint, first 2 coats should be light, 3rd should be medium/heavy, but not too thick.
Let dry for a good amount of time.
Spray 2-3 coats of clear coat, again, starting light, but this time, you want the last coat 'wet' (as in, it looks wet) and fairly heavy. The clear coat will look the very close to the same when spraying it, as it will be when it's fully cured.

Let it wait a day or so, and then install.

I would not suggest using a gloss or bright color on the top dash. BLINDING!! had a buddy do that a few years back, needless to say he regretted it.
