I read somewhere that you can buy VHT Nightshade to tint your tails. I have moisture in the drivers side and I want to tint instead of replace. I need to know where to get it. I thought someone said you can get it at Autozone, looked but didn't find it. I really don't want to buy it online, a store or paint supplier would be better for me. I am located in southern Indiana.

If you go to Advance Auto or Autozone, they can order it for you. Takes 2 days to ship and costs roughly $12 a can. They wont advertise it on the shelf, but if you ask they can look it up. Just make sure you get someone who knows what you are talking about.

the only bad thing about the VHT is that you have to do all the wet sanding and buffing and then clear coat them. i would recommend seeing what a local paint shop would charge you to do it for alot better result.

Most local ricer shops keep it on the shelf. It is easy to do and you can get good results,

One can will get both your tails as dark as you want them and still be enough left over. I was lucky enough and found vht at my local speed shop for 10 bucks. It's super easy to do, and make sure to get a can of clearcoat too.

I used this stuff with great success tinting my tail lights for the first time. heres a write up without pics:

    Clean taillights

get some 2000 grit sandpaper and a little bowl of water

start by wetsanding the entire tail light. It will look very dull with a lot of fine scratches in it. it will turn a greyish white color.

    dry off all the water

Apply a thin even coat of VHT over the tail light. Make sure its a very light coat and make sure your apply it evenly. do not hold can too close to the taillight because it will run. (If it does run, you can get by if you let it dry and then wetsand the spot)

    let this coat dry

now wetsand again with the 2000 grit sandpaper

    dry off all the water

Apply your second coat of VHT. This one can be a heavier coat than the first. This may be the last coat you will need depending on how dark you want your tail lights. For those of you who want them like mine, i did 3-4 coats. just repeat the process i explained.

once you have your desired darkness, let it dry and DO NOT wetsand.

Start applying your clear coats. I used Duplicolor auto clear coat. On these coats you just apply and let dry, apply and let dry. I did about 3-4 coats of clear. this is what protects the taillights and gives them more shine.

once you finish, put in a safe spot and let dry 3 hours. I left mine in a garage with a fan going.

once they are dry, take some car wax and polish them up. this will give them even more shine and protect them further.

I would recommend staying with 2 coats of VHT because mine are impossible to see at daytime. at night they are fine and you can't really tell the difference.

Here is my VHT job. I got the bottom one pretty shiny. I got tips if anyone needs them. I wasn't satisfied with the bottom one, minor scratches in it, so i did them again, and the bottom picture was the result. Doesn't get much better than that!! No dimples, smooth as silk.

You can find VHT at O'Reiley's

Some carry it and others dont....I havent seen much around here. I ve seen some people use Masters black trans. hobby paint. My tail lights were damaged and I went with the Master's red trans. paint and they have the all red look and are pretty smooth. I'll see if I can get some pics and post them. It's just different lol.
