I Drive a 2000 Grand Prix with drive by cable. Now I have driven cars with the drive by wire system (2005 volvo xc90 and many more) and I absolutely despise it. It feels so numb and disconnected. Specifically the Volvo was horrible with a laggy response. I don't really want to ever have a car with it, but I know all the newer cars have it, so I wonder, how hard it would be to convert back to cable. Also I think that this is just another thing to go wrong on and car. We have transmission by wire, steer by wire is starting to show it's ugly face, and I know Mercedes has/had some stupid brake by wire thing a while back that was a disaster. Also we know about the problems that Toyota had too. These technologies are suppose to make everything safer but I think giving more control to the computer like this makes us more vulnerable. This technology is suppose to help avoid accidents and stuff but when it goes wrong it may even cause an accident. All these newer cars have too many computers on them, things are getting to advanced for there own good and once hackers get on par with all the technology, we are SOL. Watch the video, it's coming whether we like it not. Also if anyone knows how easy or hard it would be to change a car back to a cable throttle let me know. This is just one guys opinion, so let me know what you guys think about it, love it or hate it. I think you know my opinion by now. Call me what you want "old fashioned" or whatever you want but I know where I stand. I look forward to reading your responses.

Toyota didn't have any issues. It was overblown by a hysterical media and when the truth came out they just whistled with their hands behind their backs like nothing was wrong. When independent studies were done on the "unintended acceleration" incidents it was found that the gas was 100% and the brakes were never touched. It was driver error 100% of the time.

That's actually false stealthy. They actually caught Toyota and Toyota blamed it a "ghost in the data".

as for DBW, after my tune from Will, the response was awesome so that's something to look into

That's possible too, because the lies and blows up everything else right. Idk for certain but I wouldn't doubt it.

Im not denying that some have better response but most (not all) I have driven have been really crappy with response. I Hate the feel of every single one I've driven. Can't really mimic that mechanical connection, in my opinion.

The only GM controller that can go from drive by wire back to drive by cable is the P59 computer found in 2003-2007 GM trucks/vans. The only reason it's possible is because the vans still used a cable throttle body for 2003-2005ish while the trucks used a drive by wire setup. If the IAC drivers were installed in the P59 DBW computer you had you could wire in the cable throttle with sensors and make it work. Of course this has nothing to do with a grand prix though.

Past that no newer factory controller can support drive by cable anymore. Everything is tied into the computer driven throttle bodies now.

I have a 2012 silverado with drive by wire and it's as snappy as I want it but I do own a tuner so I can do what I want with it within reason.

I sure there's a HARD way to get it work.

BTW my grandpa has a 03 chevy suburban 5.3, could I do it with that?

the dbw gp's can you ground the throttle body to get better response? I know with the mazdas 3's you would ground the tbody and the throttle response improved greatly.

It's not false. It just wasn't widely covered in the news

It's a maybe, you'd have to open the computer up to see if the IAC drivers are installed on the circuit board. Then you'd have to wire in the new sensors, change the calibration in the tune with something like HP Tuners or EFI Live. You'll need a new throttle pedal, cable and throttle body. What I'm not sure about is the cruise control, you'd lose that for sure with the swap unless you purchased the DBC cruise control equipment and made it work.

The DBW to DBC is always possible but keeping CC might not be.

My 03 Hoe has dbw and I hate it, it's like it is too touchy, like if you are driving under 30 mph and have your foot on the petal and hit bumps in the road the engine rpm flutters with your foot.

There was a company at Sema a few years back that was making a module to speed up throttle response. With I could remember their name.

I would rather have the 03 because better interior design and the double din radio slot. My step-dad has an 02 and even sitting in the seats your butt feels better in the 03, both are leather BTW.

The 2006 Sierra I had felt fine, I never thought the throttle was too touchy.

Heck I made it even respond quicker when I tuned it lol.
