So I've got this 150-ish k L36/T5 combo that a 96 Camaro is donating to my Porsche 944 project. I'm getting ready to stuff them in for last mockup/first get it to run. Therefore I want the clutch/flywheel/throwout bearing to be in good condition. When I opened up the clutch this is what I found. The shiny flywheel bolt heads correspond to the shiny clutch tabs just inboard of the springs. Does anyone know what caused that? Will it go away if I just order a new flywheel, new flywheel bolts and new clutch?

Also - if I order a new flywheel, are there any special concerns with balancing it? I thought I remember reading that there are V6 specific issues with balancing flywheels - but maybe that's just when swapping from an auto tranny to a manual one.

the clutch disc was installed backwards from the looks of it. the "hat" of the disc should go towards the pressure plate and the flat side towards the flywheel.

looks like you found the issue/noise that probably led them to sell it "before the engine knock/etc" got worse

just get the disc Blanchard ground at an engine machine shop or a local grinder (grindal/etc) and youll probably get at least one more clutch worth of life out of it

    ^ What he said.

If you're interested I have a Spec Aluminum Flywheel and Stage 3 clutch sitting in my shop doing nothing. $550 shipped! (Has about 2,500-3,000 or so miles on it)

First the good news - I surfaced my flywheel at work myself (under the watchful eye of the Tool & Die guys).

But the rest of the news is... frustrating. First the clutch kit came without the throwout bearing so now I lose a week while Rockauto and I play swap parts game.

And then came the time to bolt the flywheel back on the Camaro L36 and... the bolts that the internet/Rockauto/Oriellys/Ebay and God say should fit DO NOT FIT. My bolts are smaller. The internet reveals no obvious clues or alternate PN's and Rockauto will not exchange with me because they think I am wrong.
"Correct" bolts are 7/16 (on left) and mine are smaller (Right). I also pulled a bolt out of my L67 and they too are smaller. O?

they are, but many of us reuse them. not as big a deal vs a head bolt. we reuse lim and every other bolt too pretty much.

i didnt even tq em. just went by german spec, goodentight. they have been in there for over 2 years now, got like 9 track passes, lots of tuning pulls on the street and my right foot daily lol
