Whoa buddy. It worked like a champ! I had both heads stripped in no time. It was nice!

Okay, so I know I said I was done with the S10 until the K10 is done. I really did mean that, but this is something I had to do. I see it as a maintenance item. One of the original Summit house brand chambered mufflers broke a baffle loose. Rattles like a tin can and drives me nuts. It's embarrassing. Happened a while ago too. I've tried beating the muffler with a ball peen hammer to dent the case and wedge it in place. That works for a while, but the rattle comes right back when I go WOT and shake the system. Enough of that.

On a recent episode of Engine masters, they tried a bunch of sub $40 mufflers. Of the chambered mufflers they tested, the Cherry bomb pro's seemed to be the best fit for my tastes. So I ordered a set of those. I'm hoping to have them on within a week or two. I'll report back on how I feel about the sound. Anything has to be better than the rattly tin cans on there right now.

Drill and welder might fix a loose baffle if you could locate the pinch weld area. Be less trouble if it would let you. You could probably sell the old ones if you fixed that one after it is off.

But pfft. Be that as it may, when I got duals on my ex el Camino, muff dude had two new Cherry Bomb Vortex for me on the cheap so I got those.

Really liked them. My wheezy 350 could only barely make them talk, at full song. But the S-10 will blow on them harder. I bet you will dig 'em.

Now who among you can name the product represented by Dig'em (the frog character, who also makes a cameo appearance on Family Guy)?

    Damn Skippy!

Now I'll stop myself and not ask what product "Skippy" was.

Brandon needed some "smack" talk on his build thread anyhow. Hee hee

Hadn't even thought of that. You're probably right. I kinda don't trust them now though. My luck, just as soon as I fix the the broken one, another baffle will shake loose.

Well... Not so sure about that. LOL. I mean I really beat the snot out of them. Partial frustration, partial desperation. It decided to start rattling the day before Sarah's review. I'll hang on to them for a future junk build.

I love the way a chambered muffler sounds. Mello idle but full on obnoxious when you hit the loud pedal. They really shine when you have a choppy cam. So....

You animal. There is only one peanut butter, and it's JIF. Crunchy or creamy doesn't matter as long as I see those 3 letters!

Wasn't there a puffed wheat cereal with a bear too? Another brand, can't think of it. I'll have you guys know the cereal and peanut butter talk is cracking me up. Found something (peanut butter brand) with which to polarize the GP community. LOL Wait, I am the only GPer.

But it reminds me of the old is this the name of a race horse or a porno thing... but now its hey is that a cereal, or an ice cream, or coffee, or weed??? Ha.

Have fun blastin yer tuff nu muffs, post a romp sound byte. Did I ever show you the firebreathing wheelstand burnout S-10 painting / drawing I did? It was red but I could fix that. You might dig it if you haven't seen it and I am needing to dig it out for something else.

Dudes on my other two forums are all like a hundred, retired and either building shops or dying so ... yep fun talk.

Oh and yeah um, it was like Sugar Bear. Super Sugar Crisp. Gold box, blue turtleneck. I don't have much RAM but plenty of useless ROM space. Upstairs.

Skippy in the orange can only, honey roasted or whatever the flavor is called. Everything else can suck on it.

    Here I go! After doing a bit of research, it sounds like it's hard to make BIG improvements to the 243's. Even pretty easy to do more harm than good. They are pretty good as is. So like I said previously, just going after the low hanging fruit. Not hardcore reshaping. Here's the plan;

    1. Blend the seats: The intake seats overhang the runner on the roof side by about 0.040" and the floor side by about 0.010". Exhaust seats hang over by a couple thou all the way around. Just going to grind the inner part of the seat till it blends with the casting to remove the lip.
    2. Remove the rocker screw lump: There's a big lump in the intake runner to support and seal the rocker arm bolts. Removing this lump exposes the tap hole for the rocker arm screw, but this isn't a big deal. Just have to run some sealant on the bolts.
    3. Reshape the valve guide boss': Going to pull back the casting around the valve guide just a little. Probably till it makes a smooth transition into the valve guide itself.
    4. Smooth the intake runner: Mostly just blending the casing marks.
    5. Smooth and shape the exhaust runner: Here's where I'll spend a little more time. Smooth the runner down to 220 grit and raise the roof of the port. No full on gasket matching. Just make it so the radius of the roof matches the radius of the walls. I don't want to make it so big it overhangs the opening on the headers.
    6. Polish the combustion chamber: When I say polish, I don't mean like mirror. Just to a cross buff. The combustion chambers on a 243 are already pretty smooth, but I want to do anything I can to combat carbon buildup.

Anyhow, this should be a nice little long term thing I can poke away at after the sun goes down. The days are getting pretty short right now.

New mufflers are in. Didn't take any pictures. Just imagine 2-1/2 hours of grinding welds then an hour of rewelding. Followed by a couple hours of me sliding around on my back to get it all put together. The whole thing sucked to do, but it needed to be done.

Can't really tell a difference in the sound just yet. Maybe after the first test drive I'll hear a difference. I'm happy just to have gotten rid of the rattling baffle.

I've been pining over a higher stall converter since I started driving this truck. I think now might be the time. Circle D will be having a week long 10% off black friday sale. "Budget" options for the 4L80e are VERY limited. I think the best option overall is the Circle D 278mm "HP" series which start at $599. If I upgrade to the billet cover (+$150) it will save me the cost of a different flexplate, and it will be future proof if/when I go turbo. So all that is pretty much decided. Only thing I'm not 100% sure on is the stall.

They are available in a 2600-2800 OR 3000-3200 stall. Based on all the factors (truck weight, engine size, rear gear, my driving style, how I use the truck, future plans for the truck, etc.) I'm really leaning towards the higher stall. I've watched a lot of YT videos on the subject. I have heard a couple guys regret not going with a little higher stall, but not a single person say they went too high. I don't want to miss the mark right off the bat.

So, 3000-3200 stall. Change my mind?
