[QUOTE=BrandonHall10;1494628]You remember correctly. I'm impressed. So if I'm reading that correctly, you're saying the K10 got jipped out of a motor swap and passed over for the S10, so it's the K10's turn for some attention? Sound logic.[QUOTE]
I mean, unless you want to pull the 350 out and do a full rebuild... I figure you would be more inclined to swap in the 5.7 and run it, and do one of three things with the 350:
Break it down and do a full rebuild, and set it aside. Just in case there's a 5.7 failure.
Same as above, but bored out, stroker crank, a decent camshaft, some nice heads, all the go fast parts and whatnot, and set it aside for the same reason as above.
Either of the above two options, and keep it for another future project or sell it to a family friend/good buddy in need of a solid SBC.
First two would present the additional challenge of keeping the ability to mount a SBC in the K10... Keeping options open, ya know?
Alright, alright that was harsh. You deserve better, B. Here is a personal Chevy truck fantasy, see how it grabs you. Blend old and new to a further extent which you can probably handle these days... Keep a solid late model "beater" 4x4 that you can share. Thats y'all's thing. But take the K down to more like SUV height, perhaps ditching the straight axle using late model or aftermarket components but sticking with 4x4. Late front frame clip? It would be unique and yank hard off the line. If you keep 70s car ground clearance, you could still go places too. But that with a topper and sliding back glass could be fun for a family. I wouldn't know, but theres one honest suggestion if you are that froggy. Kind of in keeping with what Stryker said...
You could fab a bolt-on arrangement to attach a front frame and just roll axle to air cleaner into storage and hack up a cheapo CL truck, and... yeah. The core support doesn't know what it sits on. Hmm, is all. You could snag another chassis to do this to, or... lots of options.
I didn't figure you'd leave that jab just sitting there. I know you're better than that. :th_winking: I like all those ideas. Truth be told, the LS swap on the K10 is just temporary. It's a long term solution to my emissions issues, but ultimately not a forever thing. Eventually I'd like to do a full frame off restoration. Take it back to nearly 100% stock condition. I'm talking GenII SBC, 700r4 trans, and maybe even a *cringe* carburetor. That's years off though. Like, after the kids grow up and move out.
I have no desire to do a full rebuild on that 350 at this time. That gets me thinking though... That 350 that's in there right now still holds great oil pressure. I might try to do a poor man's rebuild just for grins. Dingle ball hone the cylinders and toss new rings in it. Just for fun.
See? I knew me and you had similar ideas...
There's also the *expensive* option of doing the Holley Sniper EFI, the one that's basically an 850 double pumper body, but it's got sequential injectors under the throttle blades and performs like a newer MPI style system... Sniper EFI - Holley Performance Products
Just in case your adventures with a carb don't go quite as planned. :th_thumbsup-wink:
Well, I got a little side tracked on the K10 swap. I picked up an '06 Silverado 2500HD that needed some work:

Anyhow, it's all done. Wife has been dailey driving it for a couple weeks now. Met her for lunch and got to snap a picture of both of my white Chevy LQ4/80e trucks side by side.

So this truck has been together and on the road for over two years, and I'm just now tuning the MAF. VE's been done for a while so WOT fueling is all good, but idle and cruze trims were still all off. Not anymore! Got things close with the WB. then fine tuned using closed loop. I brought the apprentice along too.

so thats what a lap top holder looks like lol
The truck has been pretty much just sitting for the last 8 weeks. It's not as much fun to drive when it's stupid hot out. The AC works, but admittedly, not that well when it's over 100. I've been driving the '06 2500HD. The AC is awesome and the fuel mileage is the same between the two anyway.
With fall (and cooler temps) right around the corner, I decided to to give it a once over. Get it back to daily driver status and looking good. Changed the oil, washed the body, engine and wheels. Now that's all set. Unfortunately, I probably won't be putting many miles on it until I get new tires. Just can't seem to keep tread on them...? Waiting for that Big-O buy 2 get 2 free* sale.
Also pickup up a second spare 2wd 80e. Bought it as a core, but they guy said it worked when it was pulled. Just had a leak in the front. I'm happy either way considering I only paid the core price. Looking forward to adding high performance 80e builds to my skill set!

There seems to be some type of foreshadowing here... Any reason why you would consider building a bulletproof 4L80E? I totally don't see there being any small trucks in your fleet that could potentially get a big "boost" in power in the near future and need a stronger transmission...
spare or stronger spare is always a plus. hes got a fleet of 6.0's these days lol
You never know what the future holds. :th_winking: I always said I'd like to go turbo someday. It's just going to be a big undertaking in this truck. I think I have the fab skills, and owning a TIG now is a huge plus. It's just a matter of finding the money, and fitting it all in there. The current 80e that's in it right now should be good to over 700whp in a truck this light. I was thinking of turning a quick profit.
Well... Not a fleet per se. Just a pair. Would I go with the low oil pressure 3/4 ton, or the zero real estate S10...? Decisions, decisions... You guys love spending my money!
Got new tires and an alignment yesterday. Old tires were 235/65-R16. New ones are 235/60-R16. Not much different, but I think the shorter sidewall looks better and it still fills out the wheel opening pretty decently. Price was right too. Out the door for $433. 55k mile warranty that I fully intend needing. They did the alignment for free. Might be because I roasted off what was left of the old tires in the side lot for them to watch. We all had fun.

My guilty pleasure; Tire shine. I use tire shine like an old church lady uses perfume. Too much is just right, and I won't apologize for that either. I know it's wrong, but I don't care. The car/truck can be dirty, dented and rusty, but them tires better shine!
I'm sure that was a good smoke show, lol.. I don't mind tire shine. I use a foam on my cars that leaves a nice semi-gloss look. Don't like it slinging all over the panels and then attracting a bunch of dirt. Every now and then I'll use the super shiny stuff like yours which is usually when I get done with a good quality polish/wax job and everything is shiny. Let it sit and wipe off the excess and rock on!
**** you and your ****ing salt free ****. I mean that 100%

Guilty. LOL
Believe me, I do not take that for granted. I know what a blessing that is.Quote:

I didn't realize until the other day when I posted the new tire pics just how bad my headlights looked. Sun faded yellow is not a good look.

I dropped $20 a piece on a pair of Silverstar H4666 sealed beams. They are made of actual glass. Probably the best sealed beam, but still just a sealed beam.

I'll hang on to the old ones for practice if/when I do the HID upgrade. They are 100% plastic. I know a guy with a 3d printer. Might call in a few favors.

Today I completed the last of the minor fixes before I jump back on the K10 LM7 swap.
I rebuild the tired LSD using the Ford racing carbon fiber clutches.

It all went pretty smooth.

I'm told I need to put some miles on it to break in the clutches before I really hoot on it. Will report back once hoonage begins. I did take it for a short drive and did some figure eights. No tire scuffing or chatter, so it could be a little tighter I suppose. I did do a bit of before and after though. Before the rebuild I could grab the wheel by the spoke and spin it by hand (in park). After the rebuild, I wasn't able to. So it's safe to say it is for sure tighter.
On to other things for a while...
Well that wasn't entirely true. I did replace the AC belt and tensioner.

But that was weeks ago. Today however, I scored a set of 243 heads! Supposed to be a nice "budget" upgrade for the LQ4. I can't believe how clean these things are right off the engine! My plan is to clean them up completely, maybe lap the valves, and upgrade the springs so I'm ready if/when I put a cam in. Might even do a little porting. When I say a little porting, I mean very little. This is a long term thing. These won't go on until the K10 swap is done and driving.

Upgraded the valve spring compressor.
