DC motors make the most rediculous amount of torque. electric drag cars/bikes are awesome. silent and fast as crap.

take my comments with a grain of salt, i am only an electrical engineer.

I've seen a S-10 on tv running like 10's with a electric motor. It was pretty awsome. Especially when his burn out was better than most of the gas cars.

I would love to have the know how to build a 300+ hp all electric Grand Prix. If I could do so to where I could still drive the same distances without having to recharge, I think I would have to find me a spare GP that had a bad engine, tranny or both and go to town.

But I cannot imagine the motor nor the batteries being cheap to say nothing of the automation to tie it all in together.

with electric motors horsepower is easy. the hard part is getting the amount of power you need to run it. well, i shouldn't say that. it is hard to get the power you need without 50 batteries that last 10 seconds or being connected to a land line with an extension cord.

also, high horsepower electric motors are huge. a 300 horsepower electric motor might take up the entire engine bay.
