    Yeah. I'm a glutton for punishment. Or to cheap to buy a reworked harness.

    I've been thinking about the layout a lot the last couple of days. I have a plan in place. Junkyard run yesterday netted a couple of needed pieces. I may be using some S-10 components on this truck.

    Slow progress. I've been distracted building a 4l60e for a friend. Helps pay for this junk. I got the fuse/relay box and power distribution block (that I snagged from a junkyard S10) mounted the other day. Used one of those rivet nut tools. That thing is handy! All the 12v key on wires are joined together. When I got the S10's power block, I also got the 5 fusible links attached to it. Should work out good. One to feed each relay.

    What year S10? I might be interested in finding one of those for my own little truck...

    They probably came on a wider range, but I am 100% certain the '96 and '97 have them. So, early second gen's. That one came form a '96 and my S10 is a '97. Drivers side inner fender at about the middle of the wheel arch.

    Thanks. It's hard to find motivation when you're just standing there soldering and heat shrinking wires together in 90+ degree air temps and direct sunlight. Could be worse though. Could be freezing temps and blowing snow. I just pop in the earbuds, crank up the music and trudge through.

    That sounds more tedious, but less frustrating (aka better) than trying to trace voltages and figure out where wires are supposed to go without a wiring diagram... There are diagrams available for my truck, but they leave so much to be desired.

    I agree with you on the weather, I hate working in the cold.

    I decided to pull the powerblock and fuse/relay box off the truck and mock it up on a 2x4. It's a whole lot nicer working in the garage on a workbench with all my tools at hand. Not to mention being 20 degrees cooler and not in the direct sunlight.

    Anyhow, I got all the internal wiring done. Now I can put it back on the truck an finalize things. All the 12v key on wires I soldered together previously can now be run to their respective fuses. The pink will go to the old key on 12v that fed the ignition coil. Now it will be used to trigger the relays. The black wire with a ring terminal will go to ground and serve as the ground for all the relays.

    Butttttt.. it's a dry heat!

    Cold is the worst, followed by being soaked in under a minute of walking outside in heat and humidity. My brief week in your area told me that one must drink water by the gallon w/o sweating to stay alive lol
    I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

    Sadly, there's not much to say. The big bits are in, so it's down to wiring and fuel system. Not fun stuff. It's so hot right now, I have no desire to work on it. I promise it's not DOA. Just on summer hiatus. I'll hit it hard again in a few weeks.

    Whether is cooling down. Time to get back into this thing on the regular. Spent about an hour with it this afternoon. Need to pick up one of those crimp connector assortments before I can do much more. My current stockpile is pathetic.

    My time spent away sheltered in the garage was not wasted though. I built (and sold) a handful of 4L60e's, sold a previously built 4L80e and built another 4L80e that is currently for sale. If current trends continue, my trans building side hustle should be a good source of guilt free play money.

    Anyhow, I'll get back on this thing. Just won't be doing regular updates until something important happens.

    Working on the fuel system. Got a wally 255 fitted into a stock '87 sender. I didn't like how thin the power/ground wires and connectors were on the sender compared to the fuel pumps wires. So I drilled the lid and hardwired a power and ground directly to the pump. I retained the stock plug to feed the level sensor to the gauge. Need to order an '87 tank next.

    It might be a little weird, but I feel a tiny hint of kinship between us since we both have 80's 4x4 trucks that are "in progress". And because progress on mine is at a halt until I can get the parts, time and funds to put it back together, I'm stopping by to bug you for updates on yours while mine is sitting in a thousand pieces scattered across my garage.

    That, and your truck is quite a bit cooler than mine.

    Side note: I just now noticed that way back in the beginning of this thread you had bought a set of SBC headers, but they weren't on the 350 you pulled out. What happened there?

    It's pretty much at a standstill right now. Not for lack of funds or motivation, just have been busy with other things. The 4L60e building business is doing well. Seems like as soon as I wrap one up, another gets dropped off. It's hard to turn away easy money and I was taught to rake hay while the sun is shining. Let's just say this was the best Christmas my kids have had in a long time. I don't feel too bad about the truck sitting. It's a roller at least.


    That, and your truck is quite a bit cooler than mine.

    Pure luck. I 100% don't deserve this truck. It was just a nice blessing.

    Decided not to throw good money after bad. Once I discovered the way of the LS swap, all SBC related bits went on Craigslist.

    Weather is starting to warm up, are you going to take advantage of it and get some progress made on this project?

    I know you've got an assembly line of other things that your working on, but I really dig this truck and I want to see it back on the road... or at least in the mud where it belongs.
