Yeah man, if I knew at the beginning I would be this deep in, I would have pulled the engine. I've never pulled one and hope I get to soon. I mean, not too soon-knock on wood.

I shaved a little more weight by deleting a bolt tonight.
If anyone has got all three bolts back in the rear side of the front engine bracket, with the engine in the car, I'd like to shake your hand. That is, with the timing cover on.

Heads won't be done till early next week. We're doing exhaust guides and valve job. Intake guides were good. Weird that it's only all the exhaust valves. I do remember that the exhaust valves were pretty fried when I pulled these off a 99 gtp. I was tempted to just get another set and start over, but I've grown attached to these heads lol.

So just doing what I can while I wait. Did output shaft seal tonight. That and the oil pan gasket should take care of all the leaks. I might do some more suspension parts while it's down. It's amazing how relatively cheap parts are. I can get brand new lower control arms for 60 a pair on Amazon. For a little more you can get basically all the front end rubber. Tempting.

I went with moog problem solver lower control arms. and put in problem solver bushings. noticeable improvement for not that much money.

I did inner/outer tie rods tonight. Inners weren't bad, but it was 20 bucks a pair so why not? Rack is leaking a little in to the boots so I'm gonna try some stop leak before I think about replacing the rack.

But I think I found the source of a squeak I've had for awhile. Seems to be the top side of the strut. Silly question maybe, but can I take the bigger, middle but off the top center of the strut? I wanna put some sIl-glyde on the rubber. Just dunno if this is a springy part that I shouldn't mess with.

thats the strut mount up top there. its replaceable. strut has to come off spring compressed then swap it. if you take that large nut off pretty sure the strut will blow apart on ya. spring will pull the shaft out. they cost like 15-20 bucks.

If the strut is still installed in the car, you can remove the main nut in the middle with the metal washer. It can't go anywhere if it's all bolted together. I use an impact because a hand wrench likely makes the strut shaft want to spin.

Thanks. I just got them off and lubed. Bad thing is I now know I need new struts The driver side shock I can slide up and down by had. Was fun trying to get it pushed back up far enough to get the nut on.

Any recommendations for decent struts? I just want stock feel and don't want to spend a ton.

KYB GR-2 is a good strut, I don't know if they make them anymore though. as long as you aren't going to lower the car they should be fine.

I need the whole assembly though. Mounts are shot. I'm leaning towards these because cheap and I can get them soon.

Or their next level up is 171661. 84.00 ea. I know nothing about struts. But not trying to build a lap car.

Just remembered my hptuners track addict run.

    Hptuners: 13.708 @ 99.7
    Drag Strip: 13.696 @ 101.7

So that's cool. Did the hptuners run like 2 weeks before the track.

I should try that track addict thingy with my truck. Kinda curious as to what it will show.

Though it kinda sucks I have a 3/4 tank of E85 and won't be able to compare it to pump fuel for a while lol.

Stock oil pressure is 1/4-18npt. I needed 1/8-27. Figured it's about time I saved some money so I made my own adapter from the stock sensor.

Threads a little loose because I don't have the right drill bit. Nothing a half quart of thread sealer and 4 or 5 o-rings can't fix.

it cost me $1.35 cents....i call that as good as free, next to the time you invested in what might not leak......priceless lmao

No, the feeling of saving 1.35 after spending way more than anticipated-priceless! That and I like when I can fab up little things like this. If I wasn't having fun with this build then I wouldn't be doing it. Oh, and it won't leak, guaranteed. Start taking bets now because I hope to have this turd running by the end of the week.

Wanted to show off my advanced welding technique. I call it, "pray and spray". What's up with these sway bars cracking like this? Fixed both ends of my mom's 09 Impala a couple months ago. Hers had cracked completely off-the too part above the weld, not the whole end. They quoted her around 500 to repair.
