you could just put the cap straight onto the valve cover... the oil neck and the cap on top will both go into the same kind of hole. lol

So, over on PaintChip's thread I found the SE lips are getting harder to find. I'm even more anxious for fall now. Lol.

Then there's the matter of the color. I've talked to the guy over here by my place and he's seemed confident he can find some. Cost though?

He gave me a ballpark of 3 grand to get goin on new paint. Waiting until after winter to re-approach so I'm not blowin smoke. There's much pending, and I don't want to burn up any of the few solid local contacts. I'm lucky enough that my area's small enough to still have old salts haging around along with new guys. We have most specialty shops here too.

The weird rattle on the rear deck was the amp. Shimmed it with cardboard underneath. The clunk turning left is definitely a lower ball joint. The steering pump was near dry when I bought it, but I'm not sure that's the only problem.

Thinking about the chrome vents still. Otherwise, it still needs those belts.

I tried to order the lip from the stealership, they were ready for me to pay and then they found out they couldn't get one. Said **** it, found one used lol. Haven't checked since, they could have gotten more out. GmPartsDirect didn't have them at the time either, said it was on a national back order by GM. Oh, and the vent rings make a big difference IMO

you could just get a touch up, have it cleared afterwards... less paint to find. lol and it will leave more for a front lip! the inferno doesn't look too bad but IMO the SE is much better.

Just go with complete LCA's, there's a recall on the 08-12 police impala LCA's that make them pretty cheap, with police spec OEM bushings and the mounting points for older style GMPP or better front sway bars. cheap upgrades FTW!

and you can also run a ford exploder trans cooler from a JY and not even worry about temps after that. lol

Javi has some chrome vents for sale... lol

The guy I picked it up from was selling this for his kid. I didn't give the guy too rough a time because his son was entering the air force.

Apparently, he tried to use some kind of generic repair kit off the internet on the paint. I've seen these now. Till then, I hadn't known they existed. I guess the aim is to remove the crappy clear and blend in new. I'm guessing the kit came with a rattle can and some random grit sponges. There's no saving it. I really wish it wasn't the case cost wise. Having that huge of a goal is motivation to keep doin right, though. I'll be patient, lol.

Totally left a message on Javi's thing already, haha. Oh yeah, the cooler I was just gonna see what the sh!t fit where and figure it out with some lines and such. My numbers (195-210f trans temp) were observation, not concern. Well I mean I have concern.. but, yeah.. lol

I kept looking at those dealer installed tips. I kept liking them more and more so they needed to be cleaned. Doubt it's ever been done. I haven't totally cleaned it up. I'm going to pick up a nylon wheel and try that tomorrow. These things were nasty. I half expected them to be corroded or maybe pitted, idk.. not good anyway.

So after all this stuff I read from detailers and old farts with buckets of solvent, I couldn't get that carbon buildup to budge. The tips come off, but they are stuuuck. I didn't have oven cleaner. I did have a big ol' shootin bag full of nitro-solvent and Remington bore cleaner. I had to go heavier than #0000 wool on the inside. The right side (below) got a soak, but I still had to hang the exhaust back up and put everything away.

My phone's camera is garbage in low light. I used the good camera.

    Before -

After gun cleaner on the tough stuff. Still not polished out -

    Well, one's done anyway. Lol

    Worth the time, definitely. Shiny!

I cleaned up both tips finally. They look good. Let's see how long that lasts, lol

I had a hard start (3 tries) the other day. I checked under the air filter to see if the cone was bouncing on the pcm. Looks like that extra chunk of carpet I cut from the same floormat blew out. It was just kinda flopped and wedged over it until I got new couplers, which SUCK from the ebay intake I got. The vacuum tube was so long it was nearly resting on the trans. Cut it off, but it still looks like I should turn it a little away from the exhaust.

Look at the vibration damage. That's from maybe 8-10 days after I heard the "cover" fly out.

The extra was kinda nice if I needed it. Trimmed it to lift it up a little.

Not a 1/2" off the trans anymore. I moved it away from the heat shield after this.

I have belts coming that I got off Amazon. I don't know if it's still going, but the supercharger belt for 04+ was an "add-on item." For every $50 spent, you can order one 4060670 Conti-Elite ProV for $4.60. Our cart was over $100, so I got two for under 5 bucks each.

    Later.

Where'd you get the aircleaner? And are you going to get a PCM tray?

Broomfield, huh? I used to live out in Gunbarrel. Thin air out that way.

The filter is this one off ebay. It's just a 4" cone. I searched "blue" at the end when looking for an intake. This one isn't washable or anything. I picked that because of the aluminum piece and couplers looked nice. Didn't come with those pictured, so you could probably save some money over this one.

The common underhood colors are red, blue and black. Those are usually at the parts places (autozone, oreilly, etc).

The PCM tray can be made out of the airbox, but I left mine one piece. I wasn't sure if I took it apart how it would go back together.

I'd just finished up the '99 GTP I had when I moved out there. I used a 3.6 pulley here in MN. The thin air had me down to 3.4 to get the same "feel." My best pass out at the Arvada strip was a high 14, if I recall. Impressive I know, lol.

I got those belts in with a little help today. Checked the pulleys and all look good. I took a listen to the supercharger again and spun it around by hand some. There's a little slack turning it front and back. I suppose I'll mess around with that this winter.

I couldn't find these "Continental Elite PolyV" locally. They used to be Goodyear Gatorback brand. Ordering 'em can be vague, so I took a pic. Got the last two bars of boost back on the DIC. (Right is the old Dayco; Below is the Conti accessory belt that shredded later after about 20k)

I debated a good while just cutting that off with $1 utility blades and driving 3-4 miles home. A friend was at the store. Put O'reilly cheapo on in the lot and bought a Delco for later.

    My helper for the evening.

Here's the stethoscope I grabbed before I bought another GTP. That $7 at a farm supply store is the best money I've ever spent buying a vehicle. I listened to that '04 and passed because the nose sounded gravely AF.

    Nice Comp G.
Those tires have good traction both wet and dry.

Did you end up making that plate for the gauges? I have one on my 06 and I like it, I highly despite the gauge pillar. makes the cars look so 1990s? eh?

I never put stuff in the doors, seems awkward to me. The center console is behind my elbow since I have short legs, and I always forget that it has stuff in it...especially when I'm in a hurry. Lol

Haven't made the gauge plate yet. Couldn't find a mechanical boost gauge local. I also don't have pictures of the chrome interior pieces yet. Slackin'.

This weekend I went and got a JY BCM after opening mine up. I took a pic. Top is location, driver's side door. It's all SMT components inside with some coating on both sides. Not much to consider for repair.

I'll probably take the wheels off and look for any obvious horribleness. Otherwise, take it in for ABS codes this week (I wanna say it threw code p0500 or something? Bad ABS module, anyway.) I also ordered a Trans-go, filter and fluid. I have a Metallica concert this weekend, so it's been busy.

    Take care.
