Hey guys, some may remember me, most probably don't, but I've been in the GP scene since before there was one. My resume:

99 GTP, 12.9@104, first DHP PCM Test car, One of the first cars to get 1.9 Rockers, Probably still the LEAST modded 12 second car.

    95 Riviera, Series II L67 swap, 12.9@107

99 Regal GS, sold last year with 300k+ miles

I was the first to figure out how to install Performance Shift on the 01+ cars

    Etc...

I just picked up a clean 04 GP GT with a blown up motor. I plan to toss a stockish L67 or L32 in and build another 12 second DD. Good to be back!

So whats new in the GP world? Aluminum heads ever come around? Worth building an N/A motor at all? Any good LSD's ever hit the market? Whipple kits mainstream yet?

    - AL heads were around for a bit, ZZP specific. however, they didn't sell well and since the 3800 is a dying platform they are no longer available. if you get your hands on a set for the right price you're a lucky man.

    - it's never worth building an N/A motor with a 3800, haha.

    - LSDs are hit or miss. we really haven't seen tons of people have the need for them. there's always the upper echelon torsen and quaife, but a few other places they can be found. intense is one that rings a bell.

    - whipple kits are not even close to mainstream. it's still basically a jon bob and PRJ special, they can't keep his car together and still continue to drop money into it. once turbos popped up most high hp blower builds went away.

now it's getting to the point where the cars are so cheap that a lot of younger, less automotive experienced guys are able to get their hands on them. they make for some great cars to just have a quick little get around town car, but everyone has the same opinion about pushing lots of power: **** it.

Which is why he bought a Impreza RS and I got a CobLat.

    Oh the funnies.

Also, PRJ is currently working on a nasty Whipple setup behind the lines...already seen a few things about that.

There is another guy in Nebraska that came to KCIR a couple November's ago with his car, but he popped a head gasket pushing 25psi.

Still too much money to drop when a turbo build is is half the price now if not more.

That's what I kinda figured. Turbos were just starting to hit the market when I dropped out. Lots of catching up to do.

Right now my plan is looking like dropping an L67 or L32 into the engine bay with the Stock ECU (Re-flashed with the correct injector / MAP info) and just vent the BBV. Or, Morad has a nice low mile L26 cheap that would make a good start to a turbo setup. What's the going rate on a Turbo kit these days?

turbo kits are gonna be around $3500 brand new, give or take based on options.

the L26 doesnt make a good boost motor, so stick with the others. high compression go L36, low compression go L67/L32.

I was under the impression that the L26 was the same compression as the L36, with the updated manifolds and possibly better rods?

    Thanks

    Yeah, toothpick rods.

People started really popping them a couple years ago and we realized huh, lets compare.

They are seriously a twig compared to L36 rods.

Also, if you can get an L32 over an L67 do...powdered rods FTW.

Good to know! Waiting to hear about Morad's supply of L32's.

Found my old Car Domain page, makes me miss my old GTP!

    Welcome back Rob.

Turbo can be done for cheap if you piece together your own kit...(ie: exactly what I am doing)

Like these two said ^^ the L26 rods are "Thought" to be super awesome and stronger like the L32's..but, sadly they are not. I would suggest either a 36,67, or 32.

PS...Post pics of the new ride :P

Thanks guys, no pics of the new ride yet, have to pick it up this evening. It's an 04 GT in Graystone Metallic, Stock 5-spokes painted black, tint on the rear windows. Looks pretty clean, minor scuffs here and there. Black leather interior with a Pioneer AVH3300 headunit. I've got a set of 17" MB Motoring Drifters here that'll end up on it for summer, probably run the stockers with snow tires.

Glanzergtx has a zzp Z7 intercooled kit for sale right now. I think he was asking 3500 for it IIRC but I could be wrong on that. Check out the classifieds.

Yeah, Turbo's going to have to hold off for quite a bit. My budget for this whole thing is ~4k all in at the moment.

Morad has an L32 for $1200 with 100k on it. I think that's the one I'm going with. Just stopped at the bank and I'll be towing the car home tonight!
