Good morning. Tried searching but didn't find anything. 2006 GP 3.8 supercharged. If the temp is below 45F the ABS and Traction Control work fine - no issues. Above 50F I can be driving down the highway, 65-70 MPH, smooth road (for Pennsylvania) and the Traction Control and ABS service lights will alert on the central panel and light up on the dash. I've cleaned the connections to the ABS controller. This started after the transmission was replaced last spring (carrier bearing in the differential failed - interesting sound). All connections seem OK (disconnected, hit 'em with contact cleaner, dab of dialectric grease and re-assembled). Both front wheel bearings were replaced last April, with new toner wheels. Lower control arms replace a month ago, but that can't have anything to do with it. My issue is that the only factor seems to be ambient temperature. One aside, from time to time I do get an over-voltage (15+V) and the 'charging system failed' message (I assume this is a ground and will be digging into it this weekend) but there doesn't seem to be a correlation between the two events. Ideas? To be honest, I'm an old motorhead and am far more comfortable with points, a timing light, dwell meter and carbs (with a sync gauge for mutliples) than I am with OBD2 warnings - but I figure it's time to learn! Thanks in advance.

Could be a wheel bearing, wiring harness or connector. Check for ABS codes and it will tell you what corner is acting up.

ABS codes came up empty. Wheel bearings were all replaced last year SO I'll be going through the wiring harness and connections, one at a time, cleaning and verifying - see if that clears anything up. Would have done it over the weekend but my fly rod kept whispering "take me out ... take me out...."...

I had a similar problem with my 2000 GTP, "ABS" light would illuminate after the engine bay warmed up, but if I kept my trip short enough and didnt allow the car to warm up between usage, the light would not re-appear. A trip to AZ and a free code read of the ABS controlled showed no codes, but my ancient OBD II software (car-code) that I have on an old laptop has enhanced data read would show me a "1571" code once and a while, and the "requested torque" signal from the ABS controller would freeze at 100%, triggering the ABS light and loss of MAGNASTEER (steering got hard at low speed). I pulled the entire wire harness from the engine bay and opened it up and found a chaffed wire held on by only one single strand of copper wire, but it went to the transmission and was not yet causing any driveability faults.

I ended up sending the ABS module to "MODULE MASTERS" for rebuild, problem solved!

Just to sate my curiosity - being an old fart I grew up without ABS and traction control was either a locker or a spool in the differential housing - now I know I can disable ABS/TC by pulling a fuse - is there any way to black out the warning lights on the dash and maybe even stop the alarm on the center display after doing so? Back in the "good old days" we'd just have popped the bulb out of the back of the dash - but I suspect they're LED's, not individual, socketed bulbs ...

This also disables the A/C (on the 97-03 anyways).

Tape on the dash and unplug the DIC.

AC still works with the fuse pulled (tried last summer) on an '06. I was thinking about the tape (that's how an uncle of mine dealt with the seat light light in his '75 Opel) but was hoping for something a bit more elegant for the DIC - anyhow - thanks for the chuckle.

When a trans swap is done, the wiring to the wheel sensors is moved and unclipped from the subframe etc. While it sucks, I'd check over the wiring down at the subframe where the speed sensor wiring is connected to the main harness and lays around the frame. The driverside is pretty clear of issues when doing the trans, the passenger side can get caught up on the engine mount and possibly pinched.

If I were trying to hunt it down..that's where I'd start.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Had a bit of down time yesterday so the car went up in the air, right side front wheel came off. Connector to the toner wheel looked kinda hinkey (wires exposed going into the connector) and the wire was a lot tighter than I like to see. Pulled the connector apart, figured out where the wires were binding and relaxed them, hit everything with contact cleaner and re-assembled. Fingers crossed - no ABS/TC lights on the test beat or on the drive into the office this AM - thanks for the advice!

curious - light came back on when it got warm - then the brake fluid low light came on - added some DOT 3 - checked the brakes and saw that the left rear was marking its' spot -can a leaking caliper - and the pressure differential associated with it - lead to the lights coming on? Ordered a new caliper and will replace later this week. Cheers.
