day 4 of trying to do this. you need two people or a vice bench in order to get the 90 degree flixble on the 4" pvc thin wall. or else it wont go on and you will end up hurting yourself. just an fyi the pvc pipe broke 3 times so lucky i got 5 feet of it. and the 4" roofing peice for the fenderwell just 3 times of trying that and the measurements were off for my car.

    What?

    You're supposed to get a 3 to 4 " coupler.

    SlowM90 aka jess did.

But she went through a massive pothole.

The spartan dude did as well, but he drove through a lake apparently.

Just dont drive in very deep water and you'll be okay.

Even then, make a short ram intake if you're N/A and then TB intake when boosted.

    Simple.

I thought it was determined that the standing water cracked the block, rather than water getting sucked in, then expoding the bottom end.

Jess drove it into a deep water hole(two feet or so) and then gunned it to try and get out of the hole... so yeah... if the filter is under water it obviously could suck water in that could get into the motor.

I"m not trying to say that it can't happen. There were plenty of instances that I thought I was going to suck in some water. I was just talking about Spartan's case only... but he probably did suck in water as well.

well, I think the concern is there, but it sounds like SlowM90 is the only case that actually caused engine hydrolock and/or damage from taking water in.

SpartanGL's damage was not caused by taking water in the intake, it was caused by the submerging the hot block in cold water. Water may have gotten in the intake, but it did not cause the block to crack and explode causing the damage that ruined the engine. It's hard to say/tell if the intake was a concern in his case since it wasn't the root case.

I still feel much better running my "short ram" aka "hot air intake" now that it's not getting rediculously dirty from all the crap it was collecting from the road. I know that my filter was wet quite a bit seeing as the FWI was on during the winter in Colorado. Plus, I put my hand up there to check it, and yup, it was wet... not soaked or anything, just wet.

I didn't feel a performance difference when I switched either. That may have been since the FWI was 3", not 4".... so who knows.... It's all preference anyway..

going from 4" FWI intake to 4" short ram to TB intake has made zero noticable difference in my car.

Even when bone stock naturally aspirated to my now top swapped car.

But the difference from stock to any of the options i've tried is worth your time.

I have a TDR FWI in my 2000 GTP and really like it, but it is a PAIN to clean the filter. I mean, it is pretty much a dismantle job to do it. After a dozen or so people telling me a year ago to go FWI, now I am hearing that the cooler air really doesn't make much difference for the supercharger since it just warms it up anyway. I may scrap the FWI and put on a short piece of metal tubing instead at make a "HAI" just for convenience of cleaning the filter. Anyone want a mandrel bent metal FWI tube with sensor hole painted with engine rated black paint? :-)

does anybody know if this set-up will work for a 3.1L, the 3 1's have the maf right behind the air box not near the throttle body like the 3 8's?

Then you'd want to follow something like the '04+ guys do...just get an adapter that fits your MAF sensor...and bolt a filter to the end of the pipe you use as the intake. 3" will be fine on a 3.1...

Most all of the how-to links are dead like such. Nothing we can do till its fixed.

However, there are multiple threads on making intakes and I'm sure if you search around you'll find exactly what you're looking for.
