    2001 Grand Prix GTP 3.8L L67 1XAB Transmission

Before I buy a trans I would like to know if my trans can be repaired instead of replacing it completely.

Problem 1:When hitting passing gear it doesnt go into gear right away it stay in the higher gear for a brief time then it will hit it. Then it will most times have a slight bang/knock sound when it hit passing gear. It doesnt do this in any other gear just so you know.

Problem 2:On take off and under acceleration there is shudder/vibration coming from under the car. Can this be torque converter shudder, tires, cv shaft or strictly unrelated to the trans which seems unlikely.

Can these be fixed on my trans or do I have to get a complete tear down/rebuild?

Most repaires require the tranny to be removed from car. My tranny had a solenoid valve go bad at 162,000. Miles but I rebuilt the tranny because it was out and the miles. How many miles do you have.

I have about 90,000 miles. I had the valve body replaced with an OEM reman by acdelco put in with all solenoid/switches new original delco put in to correct this issue and still the same. Now some people told me that since I brought all my parts to the trans shop they wouldnt make any money off me just labor.....that it is possible they just replaced my fluid and never put any of my parts in.

It's hard saying what they did or didn't do without evidence. Likely the most common problem is the pressure control solenoid which causes these hard shifts (PCM tells tranny to bump up the pressure when a shift takes too long). The shutter is also likely tranny related and related to the PCS. BUT this may not be or only part of your problem. It's a fairly common practice with these transaxles to rebuild, apply a shift kit reducing the long shift problem with better shift times.

Problem is even if they did replace all electrical mechanisms the damage that had already started was likely not fixed and should have been rebuilt then.

Bottom line, either buying a reman'd tranny or having yours rebuilt should basically result in the same thing. Reman'd is just a used broken tranny that has been rebuilt.

Yeah I figured I'd ask before buying a trans from TEP. Their trans is the ultimate for our cars considering Dave specializes in them as his main focus.

That should put you in really good shape.

By all means, do share how it works out.

The symptoms you mention having me thinking hard parts/clutches, which are further in.

Maybe the trans shop didn't make money on your parts, but if they say they'll do the labor on a job and they charge you...why wouldn't they have inflated the labor to ensure they made what they wanted? I wouldn't think they wouldn't have swapped the part. Their reputation would have nothing to gain by you having issues after they worked on it.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

They had plenty to gain since by coincedence they were working on a similiar car 2001 Buick Regal and even asked me where I got the valve body from and all that jazz....I really expected my car to perform like new at least the trans but it felt no different and issues were still evident.....I talked to several shops and some said it was a $350(labor) dollar lesson learned.
