Alright so I edited it because I was told that a 4" tube would work out better
How does that look/sound?
Where should I drill the hole for the IAT?
Any suggestions for supporting the filter and keeping it steadyl?

I would not get another coupler to go from the tube to the filter.. I mean unless you really wanted too. Seems like a waste since the filter can fit different sizes.

IAT sensor I would drill a hole for it in your 4" tube, granted it's not too hard. Try and drill it close to where it originally was located.. I doubt this makes a difference but hey just throwing it out there.

If you get strong clamps between the TB and the tube, your filter will go no where, trust me. The only thing I would caution you on is your PCM. Put some more tape around the wires so that IF the filter rubs against them, it won't short circuit them.

So I could just tighten the filter directly onto the 4" tube with a clamp without any problems?
I was going to use the coupler because I thought it would hold better but if it will hold good enough with just the filter I will just use that

It should be more then fine. If you start noticing the filter sliding off, then I would go ahead and use the coupler for a more secure fit but try it first without the extra coupler and see where that gets ya.

Does that long spectre filter have a solid lip or is it rubber where I can slip the clamp over?

The part where you clamp the filter onto the pipe is rubber.

So did you notice any better performance with this spectre air filter? How does it sound, any different than the stock?

Hey i have the same exact car a 2000 grand prix gt, and im looking into doing the same by installing a cold air intake and making it myself like your doing. Is there anyone that has a guide to show how to go about actually taking off the stock air filter and putting the new one on? I am pretty handy but have never done any work on my cars engine before and am not too familour with parts to the engine and what not to touch and i dont want to do any harm to the engine and unbolt a wrong bolt ect.

Any help would be greatly appreciated I'm sure im going to be getting flamed for not knowing much but whatever, you have to start somewhere right?

Start by taking of the black diagonal bar. Should be two 13mm bolts towards the front of the car and another 13mm bolt towards the rear. There is a sensor clipped to the bar. Just squeeze the head of the clip together and yank it out. Now you should have the bar out of the way. Go set it somewhere else.

Ok now.. I would start by taking off the corrugated rubber pipe. Disconnect the IAT sensor from the rubber. It's not hard to take it off. Use a flat head screw driver if you have too. It's kinda hard to take off the rubber from the throttle body.. You have to really pull hard on it. I used a flat head screw driver to angle it out from the Throttle body. There is a clamp that connects this rubber pipe to the air box. Undo that and you can yank the rubber piping out.

Okay.. not the air box. There are two little clip type things on the air box. Undo that and you can split it apart. The air filter should come out now. That piece you unclipped should also be able to be removed. The piece you unclipped should be where the rubber piping was leading too.

There is now two little bolts that are horizontal.. they are really small and I forgot the size of them. Remove those and the air box should split in half now.. Remove this part and then pull the PCM (computer chip) out from where it was resting. You have to pull directly opposite of the way it's sitting since it's a bit hard to get out.

Once that is out, the res of the air box is just clipped. Just give it a few good yanks upward and you should be able to get it out..

And there ya go.. now you can work with making a new intake!

I spoke to a friend and he said that on the pipe leading to the engine there is a sensor wire that should be removed as well and when i get new piping i should get one with a sensor hole to re connect it to, or instead i can simply drill a new hole in a piece of the pipe and put it back in?

As far as the instructions above on removing the air filter after i remove all of it do i still need anything, such as the computer chip you said and some other components that might be important?

Just want to fully understand everything so i don't cause more harm than good and so i dont have to spend more to bring it to the shop if i mess something up, thank you so much by the way very helpful and I am glad someone is willing to help me.

CTKGP do you remember the exact measurements of the pipe ect. you purchased or did you get the whole k&N package with everything included?

What size hole did you drill to fit the AIT sensor into the chrome tube?
I was hoping my final product would look close to that, thanks for the picture
