it doesnt matter what material just as long as it 4in in diameter, which brings me to say idk if pep boys will have 4in piping, a filter and coupler maybe.

but only 1 way to find out!

Here's pics of the FWI I fabbed up yesterday. I need to get some sheet metal screws to attach the roof flashing to the fender and it will be complete.

It was super simple to make and it outperform any short ram aka "hot air" intake. Do yourself a favor and either do a FWI or if you insist on a short ram intake atleast build a box around it so the hot engine bay air doesn't get sucked in.

    I bought:
    1. 3" PVC - $5 at Lowes
    2. Roof Flashing - $4 at Lowes
    3. 7" K&N cone filter off ebay for $40
    Total = $49

I shoved the PVC onto the stock elbow all the way up to where it is smooth so those restrictive ripples aren't being used. I had to cut a little out from the fender bracket in the fender well so the filter would fit in there but no big deal. You then cut the roof flashing to shape and slide in onto the PVC. The IAT gets plugged into the stock location and your done, super easy and effective. There are no harsh bends, a direct path of airflow and a filter that is blocked off from the hot engine bay. I noticed an immediate gain in torque throughout the low-end to midrange and the intake is now loud as hell. The cars exhaust note sounds a little more brawny, overall the best $49 I spent on a mod on any car.

not bad for a cold air intake, essentially you 'bypassed' the restrictive part of the intake. it may not be the best looking but this is a good cheap and effective solution for a CAI

Yeah I agree, I wouldn't do it on a show car because the PVC will make it look "cheap" but for a car like mine that is a beater DD it's great.

I'm afraid that paint will flake off the PVC or so I've heard?? I was going to pick up some dark blue spray paint I need regardless and it would match the car and look pretty nice...

If you scuff up the PVC tube w/ sand paper before painting it might stay on there better

Alright so here is the new list for my intake, let me know what you all think:

Spectre 9732 Filter- Spectre Performance 9732 - Spectre Performance Air Filters - Overview - SummitRacing.com
Spectre Chrome 4" 45° Tube- Spectre Performance 9749 - Spectre Performance Modular Air Intake System Adapters - Overview - SummitRacing.com
Spectre 4" Coupler (red)- Spectre Performance 9772 - Spectre Performance Silicone Coupling Adapters - Overview - SummitRacing.com

I have the dark green color on my GP GT so I think the red will look good under the hood
Might eventually paint the brake calipers red

Will there be any performance gain or more just the sound will be different?
Either way I'm doing it lol
Also, do you know what the difference between stock spark plugs and the big 10.3 red ones they sell at zzp are? I asked the question in another thread and just got linked to the safely modding your 3800 thread where it does not answer my question

Thanks for all your help CTKGP09

    No.

    He'll do it like this:

Throttle Body -> Coupler -> 45 degree arm -> Filter

The filter has a clamp on it already and it will hold onto the 45* pipe. You then attach the coupler to the pipe and Throttle Body. .....just like CTKGP09's picture above. The coupler is blue, the pipe is green and the filter is the maroon

ctk, in the photo above it doesnt show where you put the sensor on the pipe, or did you leave it unplugged, because my grand prix has a sensor attached to the stock intake pipe, does anyone have any links to pipes that have holes pre made if theres such a thing?

If you have a 1/2" drill bit you can go ahead and put the IAT wherever you want/it will fit.

^^^ right like underneath the pipe, might have to extend the wired tho

mine is kinda thrown in and clamped through the coupler but sticks straight up so it still gets airflow
