Hi, new to forum so this is my first question. My sister in law gave me her 1998 grand prix that she bought new and she has only put 99000 miles on it in 21 years. The ac quit working so it has sat for two years, her husband put a new ac compressor on and never done anything else to it. When she gave it to me she gave me a new expansion valve to. My question is where is the expansion valve located? I would appreciate any other information about what I might need to do since the old compressor went out, because I'm sure there is metal shavings in the system. Thanks for any info you can provide.

You need to flush the entire system to get as much metal out as possible. Not sure where the 98 expansion valve (orifice tube) is, I want to say its up near the condenser somewhere. I know in 99+ they moved it to an insane location that proves the engineers don't work on cars...

Then replace the accumulator/drier. Once the system is clean and sealed back up have a shop draw a vacuum on it and if it holds for the normal 30min. then they can fill it.
