Went to go look at a real #6 of 6 made MPD F1 Grand Prix GTP that some one local to me is trying to sell for $2500.
Vehicle has been hit on the drivers side B-piller that has caused severe damage, met and talked to him but for what it is, It's too much for me to spend, put the bug in his head to de-mod it and make more that way, got him to sell me his spare rear whale tail spoiler but was wondering if anyone here would be interested

I'd say market value + $1500-$1800 for the F1 parts if it was in good shape, All I'd offer would be $1000 as it sits right now, but all I'd do is part it out

This is an actual documented MPD car since you can only get the numbered dash plaque if it was done by them vs. just ordering the parts separately

Correct, it will take a ton of work to fix up but having a real MPD F1 car is rare, out of my scope on body repairs but some might like the challange

from the depth of the "crush" it looks like msot of the deformation was at the door and only the thickness of the door, the rocker looks fine, likely at most the B pillar is just pushed in a bit if its pushed in at all (had a intrepid with the same type of damage and the B pillar was moved inward about 1/8", the new junkyard doors bolted on with just a washer between the hinge and B pillar and it was good to go.)

this thing while having a salvage title is probably perfectly usable.

besides it wouldnt be the first or last time i used a truck and a chain to do body work...lol

From what I understand it never was claimed under his insurance so still has a valid title, not salvaged yet

jessus **** dude you need to go back and compare B pillar to B pillar dimentions with your GP if the weatherstrip edge/hinge point is within 1/4" youd have no problem with that bugger.... but with 180k id probably say its worth 1500 at most and most of that is the MPD heritage....

That might not require much of a pull (B-pillar) but the outer rocker is gonna probably be ugly and I can see the uniside buckled over the pillar. My thought is if a guy had a plain silver sedan, even an SE would do for a re-body, donor, or clone. But then yep, theres the trouble with GPs... zero value even with low miles. Everyone should have a handful of em.

dude the bumer of the other car was above the rocker...and being aglancing blow it looks like the worst spot is probably right at the lower door hinge. if the rocker had seen ANY force the cladding would be broken. you can see the door skins over the rocker thresholds....

the top of the B pillar is kinda hard to tell if its tape residue or an actual crease/dimple.

even then id pull the bugger out and slap two doors on it and get rid of my rusty beatup, 97 gtp with wooden rear sturt mounts

That's what I told him but he's dead set on the price, I even offered to help him strip it down to part it. I think it will sit for a long time at that price but pretty sure he can part it out for that, just doesn't have the motivation

$1000 is the most that I would do. If it didn't have so many miles it might be worth that.

I'm with you on flyin a kite given the condition and the fact its not a coupe, but 180K cars have lots of miles left with the usual fixes.

I can go one more round on the friendly bodywork debate, too. Bet we'll never know whats behind those doors because I'm betting dezebe didn't open them ha ha. My thought is that as I've often seen, that cladding lies (clips rip off) and the hinge area pulls the surrounding metal in with it. I fixed wrecks for a decade and have some experience with being sideswiped in a GP, albeit a coupe. Even if, as we agree, any pulling was cake, there would be a bit of labor in regaining proper gaps and seals all over. Car kinda looks like a bomb, and its just sadder when special ones die. But there were a LOT of "special" GPs made. I was trucking along at 45 and caught an uninsured Focus in the door in this pic. The roof wrinkled around the sunroof opening and the pillar is definitely flattened but I was able to easily fit a replacement door without pulling and the seals still hit. Black door cost under 250 shipped and added 3K in insurance value. Just sayin. JY parts are SO plentiful, I think nobody should buy new and everybody should drive fixed junk.

All Grand Prix, all the time. 69 Model J, 99 GT & GTP coupes. All junk, haha.
