Airflow metering won't cause a torque converter to rumble like that. It definitely could cause some odd behavior, like hunting, but that could also very well be a TC.

My old 99 GTP started hunting especially when climbing hills, and it was the tq converter locking and unlocking.

It frustrates me that when people hear "shift kit" they automatically think high performance. Like, Corvette servo on a 700r4 or 4L60e. Doesn't make it a race car. Just makes it shift faster. Thereby the clutches spend less time slipping. Leads to cooler temps and longer life.

All my Level 1 60e's get a Vette servo and Trans-go shift kit.

Yep, it feels just like the converter locking and unlocking. Dammit. They will have to drive it then have it a day or two and somehow I know I'll end up repeating the three mile tick hike between here and there. Did I say dammit yet? Dammit.

I tossed the tune up parts all in and it doesn't stumble as badly just sits there going up and down a hundred RPM. They did two rebuilds before this with zero complaint and even good service. So I expect they will do something. Its pretty obvious when driven but with the state it was in when they had it, might have been tough to notice if they did drive it after.

We'll see. Partial exhale. I can't be doing any car stuff one day this week, tomorrow. FWIW, holy crap that baby seems quick.

As to shift kits, yes and uh-huh I just haven't taken the opportunity because with my boobatoon... shifts are tough enough for me without one. In perf shift mode. In slop mode its slop, of course. I keep the button mashed and dig how it handles downshifts and upshifts all around. Except this.

Did not try this. Heres why: Scared any screw on the TB will only just snap off. I was going to clean the TB one day, wanted to remove MAF or TPS sensor or something. Each screw snapped at the head. I quit at one or two, grabbed TB assembly off the 02 L67 and swapped it on. Yes I know the L36 one would work. One snapped screw head now places me out of commission again. I will see if I can get anybody else to say replace MAF could fix it. I think that may put me over my three grand restoration budget, just buying a sensor to try.

damn thats a lot of snapped screws. mine the top stripped out, i cut a line in them and used a flat head to remove. try giving the heads a little tap before trying to remove them.

if the clutch went bad you can do that your self with one special tool. and not have to let the freon go. past that, shop is your best pal. unless you do all the work and just pay them to e-vac and refill the system. if it has freon in it still they can reuse it to refill and it ends up costing less.

No, I stopped at one or two screws is what I meant. Anyway I just hooked up Torque to observe the MAF and it appears to work good. Back to the trans shop she goes. The A/C thing would be no thing but my work doesn't have the equipment like all the crash shops I worked at. Nice recovery and recycle machines. BTW, a friend in MN said Menard's wouldn't sell him 134A last week so he went to a tractor place and got a case. I'm not familiar with that store down here but hey... run a chiggidy check because 1234a is the new, 4X priced rule.

I mean to say, certs now required to purchase 134a or R-12. Check local laws.

You only have to be certified to buy certain amounts of r134. Any joe blow can walk into a parts store and buy a 18oz can, but they can't buy the 30lb tanks anymore. I think the cutoff is 3-5lbs(?)... it's been a few years since i did my certs.

You won't find r12, because it's neary impossible to find, and IF you do, it's ludicrously expensive.

and 1234yf is irrelevant to us... but there's separate laws on that stuff because it's "flammable"

Replaced another ambient air temp sensor on the GXP today. It didn't help. Getting tired of that sensor going bad and not letting me use the AirCon. It's hot.

I know I went through a handful on one of my 99s. They are very sensitive to being dropped, tossed on a parts counter, wrecks, etc. That was my conclusion.

No conclusion on the GTP yet. Trans shop called this morning to say they were going to start by replacing "some internal electronic pieces" that were being overnighted.

GT A/C is back to only passenger side cool. Leaks refrigerant. It is warmish.

I feel you on the A/C issue. My 00 GT has been like that since last year. I've gone through all of the system except the evap coil. I think this year I'm going to finally break down and take it to a shop and be done with it. I'm thinking there is a clog in the system somewhere since my high side pressure seems higher than it should be and the low side is lower than I'd like. I also have no way to measure how much charge is in it since I redid the system last year. I'm pretty sure it is close to the specs but who knows at this point. All I know is I want it fixed and I'm tired of fvcking with it.

Yeah. I just miss having an A/C machine at work.

Trans tech called yesterday to be sure I wasn't running a GT PCM. They had parts and were about to tear into it. Due to reception and noise, I didn't catch much of it but was given the details. Blind waiting and faith having is what I am left with. They acted like it might be done yesterday but no call, no car in street. Anyone want to wager on whether we get into week three needing a valve body replacement?

Put new valves and pushrods in. I came very close to dropping a valve. I was in the zone, compressing springs, when I started to compress one that I hadn't secured the valve yet. Slowed down after that... I am proud that I didn't drop a single keeper! And I just need to install rear valve cover, tighten alternator, belts, plugs...and I'm 4 hours in. For me that's good time. Sure it would be faster if I didn't have to rely on the painfully slow two jaw spring compressor. Great wrist workout though I suppose.

Picked up the GTP. Feels like the steering shaft wasn't tightened. Back onto jackstands it goes.

Only drove it 3 miles but it seems fixed. They had ordered the converter off the #on the '02 trans. Stall is different 99 to 02 and that was the issue. Correct converter for a 99 is in it now. I guess.

Today is a Grand Three. That means I drove them all.

Good deal! Sounds like they finally sorted it out. Hope it's shifting like it should now.

Threw a new set of iridium plugs and new wires on the GPGT. Had about 90K on the old stuff so I figured it was about time. Haven't driven it yet but should be good to go. Should keep it happy until I hit 487K on the motor in another 90K miles.

Shifts good now yeah. Shifter out of adjustment this time, I'll go back for a third visit to fix that. Bottom end of negative cable and steering shaft boot got trashed. Thats all I have found so far anyway. Switched ventshade, headlights, wheels back with the GT and gave it a quick wash before returning it to daily duty yesterday. Still don't have a/c in anything.

Finally swapped out the drivers side axle on my 00 GP. Been complaining for a while and I finally had enough of the vibrations. Invested in a 16" indexable pry bar. Put a cheater bar on it and the axle popped right out. After reading through Bill's how-to I figured why not try it. Wish I had this the last time I delt with it since I always dread trying to replace this side. Test drive shows minimal vibration now! I think the rest may be resolved with some spacers due to the lowering springs.

Will see how it does next week when I can get it on open highway and give it a run but I'm hopefull.
