Radiator Fans

Hey Guys well I am having a problem for about a month now so my 97 grand prix gt over heats for some reason so I have replaced the water pump and then replaced the lower radiator hose and it still over heats. I then notice i have never seen my radiator fans working so i tried replacing the thermostat and that didnt work and i tried replacing one of the fan motors and still nothing and radiator is still new it was replaced last summer and also i checked and test the fan relays and they work still. So I'm pretty much stuck at a stand still until i can think what i can try next and also getting sick of putting in anti freeze every week I have no leaking anti freeze under the car I am also trying to figure where the **** all the anti freeze is going. But if anyone knows the answer plz let me know asap thanks guys.

Sounds like it might be leaky lower intake manifold gaskets, or possibly head gasket(s). Is the exhaust cloudy? Is there milky sludge visible in the radiator neck? As for the fans not turning on, I would consider the temperature sending unit. By the way, do you know what the temperature of the engine is getting up to?

how would any of that make the fans not work? it only over heats when it just sits in one spot and idels but when it drives it dont over heat. there none of the above of thee things u ask. but its gets up to 210 or 230 i am not trying to let it get too hot. Where is the temperature sending unit? i never heard of this i still new the world of grand prix. How would I check if it is a leaky lower intake manifold gaskets or the heads ?

Well you said you have a serious coolant leak, so that is probably problem #1. See my first post.

#2 is that the fans don't turn on. There is a temperature sending unit that tells the computer to close a relay and energize the fans. No idea where this unit is located though.

sorry i didnt mean to put i have a leak, i actually dont have a leak at all it just eats all the anti freeze up every week and i dont know where it is all going.

Actually its my fault, but anyway, do you have smokey exhaust or sludge in the rad neck? Or coolant in the oil? Is there coolant/oil sitting on the intake manifold?

I have no idea so i have crack open all of those things to see? and the spark plugs have no coolent on them. and i have no slug on the rad neck and then exhaust is not smoky

you check the fuses? also i had a sebring that would get hot when sittin gin traffic, and fine when moving... one of the fans wasn't turning on. it had a bad motor in the fan.

I hate to say this... but 210~ is normal. The thermostat doesnt even open until 195 if it's stock, and fans don't kick on until 210 at least. These cars only have one temp sensor for the coolant, and it's in the lower part of the intake below the thermostat.

If it's taking an entire week to get low enough to overheat then you may not notice a smokey exhaust.

I would remove the upper intake and check:
1) Throttle Body coolant o-rings
2) Part of UIM where EGR pipe comes up through (leaks right there sometimes).

I am of course assuming that it still has the plasitc UIM.
