Hey guys. This does not necessarily apply to my old grand prix but I was bringing home a 5 gallon container of diesel the other day and as Im driving home from the gas station I hear the sound of spilling in the back of my car. I turned around and see the diesel pouring out onto the floor mat. Thank God I was only a half mile from home. The floor mat soaked up most of it but there is still a bad smell permeating the car. An I just got the car 2 months ago! What's the best way to get rid of it? I've tried baking soda and some other foam stuff but no dice. Am I going to need a full detail operation to get this smell out or is their some other way?

I tried the baking soda trick but didn't help. Has anyone ever tried using simple green? I saw it on a website and heard it may work.

You might try OdoBan. I know it cleaned up my carpet good, but if that stuff is sitting in the padding below the carpet then you'll be looking at pulling the seats and console to get the carpet out so you can clean it properly.

2nd odoban. personally i would break out my shop vac and the odoban. spray the area good and suck it up.
simple green might work, too, but there would still need to be some suckage occuring. might have to pull the carpet out and clean it

I've used it as a cleaner for mold and mildew; works good. Not sure how it would fair against diesel.

Well yesterday I mixed a bowl of hot water with washing soap and fabuloso and scrubbed for half an hour. The rug smells great but the diesel smell still lingers in the car. I cant get rid of the smell for nothing

Sorry to say that car is going to smell for a long time.. Idk maybe some kind of enzyme cleaner that actually eats the oder and continues to work even after the smell is gone.

Best bet is to call a carpet cleaning company and ask them for a enzyme cleaner that will work or shoot have them do it with a big ol fat guarantee in case it doesn't work

I did something similar with gasoline and it was just a drop or two from filling up gas for the lawnmower. Car smelt like gas for weeks and only got better when I did a carpet extraction. I would do as Scotty said. Take out the carpet by removing the seats and whatever you can and clean it that way, allow to dry. That way you can clean the crap out of everything at the same time. Otherwise it likely smell until it all evaporates out.
