Anybody have any other ideas? I’ve also had the crankshaft sensor replaced a few months back. I just don’t understand why there is no spark coming from any of the coil packs?

while cranking the engine over, does the rpm tach work? or has the tach been not working sometimes?

I’ll double check tomorrow but I think it works. I’ve been researching more and I see that it could also be the ECM. I’ve already had the crankshaft sensor done. Do these cars have camshaft sensors?

ecm is the same as the pcm. dont think that could be failing. not very common. does happen tho.

yes we got a cam sensor but those dont always fail to often either. but the harness from the icm to the cam and crank sensors do fail, but your car seems to new for that to be failing.

For no spark from any of the coils I would assume it would be something like the common power feed to the coils. The ground for the coils is normally the control (switched circuit), which is commonly controlled by the PCM. Now im not familiar with the ignition systems on these cars so im not sure if the ICM controls the power and ground to the coils or not and i don't have access to Alldata until monday to look at a wiring diagram.

I would test at the ICM connector for power and ground, then look at the wiring from ICM to crank and cam sensors. That harness goes past pullies and belts.

Ok guys. Back at it again today. I think I found the issue. I checked the fuse which I’m not even sure what it means but it keeps blowing. The name on the fuse box says “elek ign”. If I could figure out how to include a picture I would. Now I guess it’s an electrical problem. Maybe something not grounded?

maybe you got a chaffed wire grounding out. or the crank harness is crapped out.

host pics off side, paste the link to it, or you can do pc to site up loads too using the photo icon in the reply box, 3 rd from the right icon.

you have a stock air box still? either way check the wires on the drives side along the ac lines, that harness can rub through. the fat harness that runs up the dog bone, check that out at the clamp, that area wears through too.

adding insult to injury I somehow managed to break my #6 spark plug at the the top so I’m trying to get the wire off the plug and it won’t budge. The worst wire of all the plug wires and I have spent 2 hours just trying to get it off, forget my original problem. I did manage to get replaced wires and fuses but still no sign of the shorted wire. This really sucks!

Im willing to bet your "honest mechanic" moved something around and didn't put it back in the right spot and got rubbed by a moving part. The steering components start in that area

The icm harness is kind of a pain to get to and or check out im on board with Scotty and Bill

if you remove the coil bracket from the engine that harness is not all that hard. you can see it the whole way.

thats it leading to the balancer the other end of the Y tucks in under the water pump to the cam sensor. the top side has a square plug on top of the lim a ground and the icm you already took off once.

Still couldn’t get that Damn spark plug wire out so i gave up. Don’t want to spend any more money on “guesses” like I did on the ICM yesterday. I have to bring it back to this guy to see where and what is causing that fuse to blow. I feel if I had a few more days I could do it but in the last 3 weeks I’ve missed 4 days of work due to this car. Looks like tomorrow is #5.

take a knife and cut the boot along the plug, then pull the boot back

Tried that and boot is still stuck on plug. I spent 4 hours on it and it’s in such a bad area I have no leverage. I’m even more upset that once again I’m sending this thing to the same guy who probably knows exactly what it is and will charge me $500 for something that I could of done for a quarter of that. I was going to replace the harness of wires that plugs into the ICM but I didn’t want to take a chance of wasting money again.

i stand at the pass fender and reach back to the plugs, pull the engine forward if need be, need to unbolt the dog bones but thats easy for a few more inches, then take a screw driver to pick at it and needle nose pliers to grip and rip the boot back. 6 is in a easy spot id think. 2 can be a the whore under the alt.

Honestly.. start with a flashlight and just look. see if you can easily see a rub spot. These cars aren't that difficult and usually will tell you what's wrong You found that fuse. Anyone with an FSM could tell you exactly where it goes.

Well I had to take the day off. The guy just came with a flatbed to take my car to his shop. Now the waiting begins. How much will he overcharge me for finding the cause of a blown fuse? I just wish I had more time to look around. Between scottydoggs and the rest of you guys you have really helped me search and do my best to learn about the things it could be and things it wouldn’t be. Scotty showed me how to test the fuel line and how to change out the ICM. It will probably turn out to be the wiring harness that connects to it which I could have probably done for 40 bucks or so. If it weren’t for this guy being so close and willing to look ASAP I would never bring it to him because I am almost 100% convinced he did this somehow when swapping out my rack and pinion. Any other mechanic would make me wait a couple of days and I need to get back to work tomorrow somehow. I was also looking online for what the hell that #24 mini fuse labeled “Elek IGN” means. Obviously it has to do with the ignition but other than that I’m lost. I guess I’m at the mercy of this guy now. If any of you all are in NJ, Morris county, avoid Budd Lake Transmission. Unless of course he finds the fix and doesn’t charge me anything. In that case I’d recommend them!

The only wiring going near that area would be on the passenger frame rail and it goes into the passenger compartment. I wouldn't automatically be going to that area with this type of issue, and coincidences do happen. Unfortunately the charges and time this guys rung up on you is in the area of robbery and the amount to times you went back over one issue so I'd be inclined to think that he likely wasn't doing the high quality work that his prices suggest.
