Hey guys. I’m sure most of you have seen my ongoing issues with my 2008 Grand Prix. I’ve just had a rack and pinion job done. Drove fine until Friday I pull into my driveway and I feel it losing power. So I turned it off and now it chugs like it wants to start but won’t. I’ve checked everything I can with my limited tools and knowledge. I even just cleaned the throttle body thinking that would help. My local shop who is willing to look at it has a habit of overcharging but I need my car for work. He said it could be the ignition module. Scotty, if you’re out there, any ideas for a fellow Jerseyite? Any help is desperately needed!!

if it just lost power id thing fuel pump could have went out. open the black cap on the fuel rail, key to run, push the pin inside in, watch your eyes if you have good fuel pressure it will fly out 2 feet easy.

if it dribbles out or has a short burst you got no pressure.

the metal tubing thats over your blower or intake, rad side of the engine you'l see a black cap, unscrew it, under it is a large tire valve stem looking port. push the pin like you would to let air out of a tire.

Checked it and it flew right out. There’s definitely pressure.

Called autozone and they seemed to agree it’s the ICM. next question, where is it located? Can’t find a video anywhere

its under the coil packs. they aint cheap at a parts store. like 100 bucks or more iirc.

remove the 3 coils, then un bolt the wire harness plug, 6 or 7 mm iirc then un bolt it from the bracket.

the harness you take off can also fail. check the wires at the plug for any cracks or bare wire showing.

I took it off and found her little corrosion. Scraped it off hoping it would start but no dice. If you were me, would you take it to a shop
To be sure of the problem or would you get the ICM? I don’t have money to waste but it really seems like this is the problem.

thats a ride, im in hackensack.... it could be. its hard to tell not being there.

you can also take a plug wire off the coil, prop it over the coil and crank it over watching if a blue spark jumps to the wire.

No sparks on any coil. I’m actually at the auto store now. If this doesn’t do it then it must be the wiring.

If I had more time I’d travel to Hackensack for sure but if this doesn’t work I have to get a rental by Monday. I’ve missed way too many days of work because of this car. But knowing my luck, it’ll be the wiring instead of the ICM. that’s the kind of luck I have with this car

were they able to test the old one? no sparks at all from any coil would be the icm id think for sure.

ICM is not all that common overall.

and for reference the connector is a 7mm, the ICM bolts are 5.5mm
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.
