im finally tired of the PS pump on my 08 soudin a bit like a supercharger so time to replace it. first time in 35 years of cars ive had to replace a PS pump and dont think i had ever heard or read of a filter for the PS until now and wondering if a filter would be worth it.

If I would have known I would have never got rid of my original pump, only it was leaking from the shaft but made no noise at all. The first replacement was noisy all the time cold and hot, took it back to AZ and the gave me another one, this second replacement only starts to wine a little when it starts to get real hot like driving in slow heavy traffic or driving in parking lots. I got tired of removing the pump so I left the second replacement in place, that was a couple years ago, but at least it works, but now a hyd. line on the rack is leaking.

No need for a filter just put new clean fluid in it and call it a day. Bleed it with the front end up in the air and turn it lock to lock around 15 times to get the air out. Keep topping off the pump during this. Once it stays full and has no bubbles in the fluid take it for a drive. Check the fluid level again once it cools down and top off as necessary.

Yep, car running. It will likely whine for a bit until most of the air is out. I try to turn it as fast as I can just to make it work hard.

Good luck. I wish it would warm up here. I don't even want to go out in the garage and work on the 02 Cadillac sitting there. I can't work well in a 25* garage.

i hear ya there. i used to be a carpenter- rough framing. worked all year round in michigan. i used to be able to do work in these low temps. i got knocked onto disability back in 2006 after a stage 3 metastic melanoma diagnosis( i think that had something to do with workin and playin outside for years) and the crap i had to go through the next 2 1/.2 years. one thing was a pretty harsh chemo that now has me a wee bit sensitive to heat and cold. when i used to be able to work in the winter with fingerless gloves, now my fingers freeze pretty easily.
the arthritis from followng a career my body isnt designed to do doesnt help much either.
