I have a 2008 pontiac grand prix that when I turn the wheel to the right while driving I can hear a slight squeal which I am assuming are my wear indicators on my pads. Since I prefer not to do it myself ,does anybody have a ballpark estimate what a garage would charge to do only the front pads, possibly rotors and bleed them? I m not sure if I need rotors or not but assuming I do, what's the average price? If it matters, I live in NJ.
    Thanks Guys!

i buy R1 concepts brakes from their e bay store. i get the e line drilled and slotted with their scorched ceramic pads, comes as a kit, fronts and rears sold separate and together. either kit you find, either buying a front and rear or a all 4 in one kit will run you about 200 shipped. they do have sets that cost more or less, they have blank rotors and they have black cryo stuff as well.

my regal with f bodys up front, stock out back cost 200, my 05 tahoe ran me like 210, i just ordered a full set for my friends 300c, ran him 215.

for the price your not gonna find a better brake package, these puppys work damn good. its all ill be using for now on. been running them for about 2 or 3 years now, i like em a lot lol

$300-400 easy per axle (front/rear) for a brake job.

Bleeding will cost extra, probably $50-70 to bleed all the brakes because bleeding the brakes is not part of a rotor/pad replacement.

You are paying for at least 1.0-1.5 hours of labor so $90-130 an hour at most shops. Then you are paying for the parts plus their mark up, probably $200 for just 2 rotors and 1 set of pads. The parts likely cost them $100-120 but this is where they need to make the money so they mark them up.

Prices and labor rates vary from shop to shop and state to state but this is what my old job would charge for a brake job. You also get the warranty through them so to some customers that is worth it to them and because they can't do the work themselves.

my brother worked for a shop up state NY, told me they charged a guy 1000 bucks for a brake job on a suburban iirc. he did the work and his jaw dropped when he found out what they charged lol

i see signs in front of shops here says brakes $89 a axle, no idea what that all includes, but sounds way to cheap.

I've done some very expensive brake jobs but that was because they were on high end BMW's, Audi's, Range Rovers and Mercedes Benz type of vehicles.

I too see the coupons for like 90-100 per axle per side though. So it's already about $200 plus the added costs they rack on. An of course they are using the cheapest pads and rotors they can find.

best hurry up then, we're running out of nice weather here in NJ.

if you go with them R1 brakes, buy a whole set, you need to follow a bedding in procedure, i could not imagine doing this with only one axle new.

ill be doing a 300c next week when the brake delivery comes in for my friend. so ill be working in solidarity with ya in a way lol

When I first started driving, 30 years ago, I had a 1978 Honda Accord that needed some brake work. Took it to a local brake/exhaust shop to get a free inspection. Got a quote for close to $1000 to repair the brakes. I took the car home, and my dad (who was an ex-mechanic) took a look. Needed front pads and the rotors turned; cost me about $100. The shop was quoting on replacing everything; pads, rotors, calipers, shoes, drums, bleed, flush, screw. I learned a valuable lesson on this one.

i figured that out when i was like 15 years old, back in ye 80's. i had friends that were driving and some how i ended up fixing all their cars, cause i had a clue, they did not, and they just took that trip to the shop and got that retarded quote lol i was doing tranny swaps and crap too, brakes were just normal stuff to do for me in no time. ive never paid a shop to do brakes on my own cars. never. i avoid them at all costs too.

all them cars from the 70's, you had to take the whole rotor and bearings off the spindle to replace or get cut, i think that scared everyone lol

Just got a price from my local Mavis Discount Tire and for pads, rotors, bleed and labor (wih coupon) it comes out to $289. Sounds reasonable to me being that I would only save labor if I did it myself, plus a whole lot of aggravation. As of right now, my brakes only squeal when I DON'T use the pedal but when Im driving and I turn the wheel to the left. I know that's the wear indicator but mine as well get the job done while I have the money I guess.

neewb here. just finished up brakes on all 4 corners- napa premium rotors, ceramic pads, and sway bar links on the front for $300.

Well after paying a bit over $300, my back brakes are much better. The guy said that one of my back calipers were seized but he managed to apply some heat to it and was able to get the pads and rotor changed. But of course it doesnt end here. It still makes a bit of a squeal when driving at slower speeds only when turning the wheel to the left. This was the initial sound I heard over a year ago. Now in my stupidly to try and save money, I never thought to ask them to check my fronts. But the pedal is pretty high and I dont see any dust from the rim so Im wondering whats causing the squeal? Is it possible they didnt apply anti-squeal or used cheap pads? Thinking about bringing it back to them to have them check.

I would take it back. My first concern is the rear caliper needing heat? This could be a seized caliper, and if it wasn't replaced or rebuilt, the problem may come back.
