I’m in the process of doing a custom exhaust (just seems to be cheaper that way), and I was wondering if anyone has kept the stock resonator, added a glass pack, and a Flowmaster 40? It’s a base single outlet 06 GP. I already have the Flowmaster installed, and it’s just not giving me the sound I was truly hoping for. I don’t want to delete the resonator, because drone is just too much to handle.

If that’s not the best of ideas, then how would replacing the resonator with say; a 31” glass pack, handle the drone? Thanks in advance.

sadly you are never gonna get the sound you want, its a v6 thats sideways lol

borlas is about the best your gonna do.

when everything sounds like a wet fart, i just went for stock and quiet, draws less attention. the whine from my 2.8 pulley is enough sound for me.

Put the master up where the reso is, let that puppy resonate through the rest of the exhaust pipes, will sound alot better.

That sounds like a great idea, but what about the drone? That’s what I’m most worried about.

roughly 2.5 cause stock cat backs are not really round. then it breaks into a Y thats bit smaller. but its split.

So as for the exhaust soud, yes V6 can sound pretty lame. But find out what the GN crowd ran and see if you can source a muffler that works for our body style.
My 04 I started driving is destined for a Gen V and a ZZP swap intake as soonas I get all my parts bought. Got a guy over on Thechicagoforums.com selling me an upper mount, idlers/tensioner,pulley and few other things. Then all I need are proper injectors and make sure I have working DHP, unless thngs change and Ifind a deal on an HPTuner.
My intention is to scrounge up some headers, get the rest of said parts bought. I bought car for $300, it came with new axle and oil pan gasket in trunk, newer front Monroe struts, decent front tires and 2 yr old ,3yr free repalcement WalMart battery that was bad .
So made deal with boss, swapped labor of doing brake lines, master cylinder and wheel cylinders and possibly fuel lines down the road on a free Tracker he procured, and he got me a 69k mile LKQ engine with 6 month free replacement warranty. I have just put 7000 miles on it since 5th of December!
My plans for exhaust have been sourcing a decent down pipe possibly with out cat as my car has P0420 , most likely due to large amoounts of antifreeze converter ingested fromold engine with knock.
But from flange back my plans are 2.5 in pipe with perforated core Thrush glasspack, pickup plenty of mandrel bends and piece together back to the mufflers and since stock mufflers are basically 190k+ and rusted out my plans were old school Flowmaster designed muffler from APExhaust (Flowmaster sold original deltaflow first gen muffler design to AP) and see what it sounds like.
I HATE louvered core resonators as they are so restrictive.
I did do a standard bend exhaust on a w body the other day with no resonator, and I hung couple of large weights on either side of pipe where res went. These were scrounded off a Crown Vic exhaust. NO DRONE. They were welded to a piece of 2" wide 10"to12" 3/16 or 1/4" band steel. I we;ded it across the top of pipe, then heated and wrapped the metal around and wleded it and made the weights hand out at sides of pipe like wings or something. We then had the 2 weights, probably 8 to 16 oz of metal total.
Generally drone inside of car is sympathetic vibration transmitted to car.
Car did sound good with Bosal turbo mufflers, not sure of part number.
I dont intend huge increases in power so I dont need 3" exhaust.

Well, my 3" exhaust to the tails, with two Vibrant Ultra Quiet resonators and Hooker Max Flo mufflers sound seriously good! There's drone, but nothing but unwelcome with the work done! Want a true sleeper? Leave exhaust stock! But I'm old school, more air in = more air out! But don't open up the exhaust (3") if you haven't upgraded breathing...

    Good luck in your search.
