I just got the new recall # 15757 in the mail today. It looks like GM changing the spark plug wires, as done for the previous recall, didn't fix the fire hazard caused by hot engine oil leaking through faulty intake manifold gaskets (shocking). Not only that but they still haven't come up with a suitable set of replacement gaskets yet there are plenty in the aftermarket. Oh but at least they mentioned that they will safely remove my plastic "beauty" engine cover and keep it at my convenience. I love my Grand Prix but this has been a serious problem for 3800 V6 equipped vehicles for the last decade. One of my friends from high school's GP GT was destroyed by an engine fire a few years ago and there are dozens of videos of GP fires online. GM is a little late to the party realizing that their other remedies haven't worked. After I first got the car I could smell burning oil every time I went over a speed bump. Luckily I already knew about the issue and had it fixed the right way shortly after buying the car 5 years ago. My gaskets were replaced by my local mechanic and I've had no issues since so I'm probably not going to bring it in once they have the parts ready. Hopefully we can get the reimbursement though (Mom and Dad paid for the repair). This situation has been handled so poorly by GM and they are just now realizing how they need to fix it.

Hahahahahaha not surprised. I entered my car in just to see if I had any recalls and I have one for the engine fire XD. The one that came out in late October too. Too bad I already replaced both VC gaskets. I still wouldn't take my car to a dealer. Like doing my own work.

Yeah I guess I got my recall a month late lol. But I trust my local shop way more than I trust the dealer anyways.

well not that you got the notice, but the news of a new recall for the same old issue is old news. yet they still dont fix the real problem.

The real fix is to re-gasket the entire freaking engine.

I recall letter I got in the mail said they will replace the valve cover itself, the gasket and they will remove the beauty cover if it's still on the vehicle. It will likely be months before they have enough parts stocked to even begin repairs.

I got the gasket recall back in April, well, the original owner of my car did. He gave the notice to me.

But, new VC gaskets, engine cover delete, and no (whatever that black stuff is) cover attached to the underside of the hood - I'm good for fires. lol

The gasket recall you got back in april differs from this one by a little bit. This one says to replace the actual valve cover itself.

Not like it matters but there is a difference.

    I got one too.

But i think its the where the fuel line connects to the rails is what causes most of the fires.

Mine came in the mail today too. Didn't think this was still an issue. Recall 15757.

Parts not available. They will replace "the engine's front valve cover and front valve cover gasket with new parts of an improved design. Your engine's plastic "beauty" cover and plastic oil-fill-tube extension will be removed, if they haven't been already."

I had the first recall for this completed, and I'm not sure if they replaced the LIM gaskets, not the valve cover gaskets. Maybe they can replace my leaky oil pan while they're at it.

Remove the beauty cover? Ya, it is such a problem. LOL

Sounds like they don't know how to fix the fix, and are just throwing parts at the cars.

So how can we fix the problem as cheaply as possible. I know. Instead of fixing the leak we will move the wires so it will drip on the ground instead of down to the manifold. Now several thousand more NTSB complaints, few more car fires, few more deaths. Hey I know how we can fix it. Rather then replace the gaskets, cause hey that's too expensive, why should we do things right, let's just remove everything out of the way that can catch fire.

Same with the ignition recall. Wait. Rather then replace a defective ignition switch let's just prevent people from using their key ring. Why fix the actual problem when you can just half a$$ the repair!

Don't you just love GM! Shows you that money matters more then people's lives.

I wouldn't say most, but at least the ones where the entire car goes up. The small fires that are easily put out are the ones caused by oil.

Well in actuality all car manufactures recommend not having a giant ring of keys as this does put unaccounted strain on the ignition switch.

From personal experience I can say those soak up like a pint of ATF if you let the car sit upside-down for an hour or so. lol. However it does not catch fire, in my experience.

Well you know that $2.56 Felpro valve cover on manufacturer closeout on Rockauto right now is too expensive. It is much cheaper to rip all that $h!t out that can burn than fix it right. I mean seriously. I should email the link to GM. Heck buy in bulk, get a discount, don't forget the 5% discount code, and they would have enough Rockauto refrigerator magnets for every GM facility in the world!
